Something To Do
Salsa on Aug. 10, 2010
We have forums for a reason. Please discuss the review there, not in the comments. I WILL start removing posts that do not comply.
Well, I can't say this is the worst comic I've ever read but it's down there.
Here's TFGM's favorite page. I didn't have one.
Let your voice be heard in the forums!
Next week, we review Lurei, See ya then.
EDIT: Fixed the color of my speech bubbles, sorry about that.

Anon, I'm gonna try and avoid a flame war here. I didn't mute Wolfmaine's comments because I "can't take it" I muted them because I asked that any discussions about the review be made in the forum. If someone had taken my side, I would have done the same thing.
anonymous at 11:30PM, Aug. 14, 2010
For someone who dishes out compleatley retarded judgements on other forms of artwork your sure can't take it can you?
Wolfmaine at 1:20AM, Aug. 14, 2010
I meant I appologize for my first comment on your comic. Sorry
Wolfmaine at 1:20AM, Aug. 14, 2010
I meant I appologize for my first comment on your comic. Sorry
Wolfmaine at 12:47AM, Aug. 14, 2010
I do appologize for my first comic on your page....I was a little drunk that night sorry. however that being said. I'm not gonna go to your forum but I must say your review is compleatly unjust and simply comes across as a little teenager who just got told no more allowence by mommie. If you intend to be a reviewer of any type of free art or literature please have the decency to be a blanced adult about it. Your review simply shows your not ready to really be a reviewer as you fly off the handel instwead of posting your thoughts in a rational way. however good luck and keep up the tries. practice makes perfect.
Salsa at 1:37PM, Aug. 12, 2010
Yeah that'd be the smart thing wouldn't it? I'll just post my mega rants in the forum.
harkovast at 1:04PM, Aug. 12, 2010
Salsa, maybe you should lead by example and post the giant rants on the forum?
Salsa at 9:01AM, Aug. 12, 2010
First off. I remember asking people to discuss this review in the forums, seeing as that is the reason we have them. Second, I appreciate that you didn't use the Anon feature to post your comment, Wolfmaine. I's also like to know which comic you're referring to and why you think it "sucks balls." Third, Any reviewer is a person with opinions, which can color a review, but there is a general consensus on what makes good writing and what makes good art. I feel that Something To Do doesn't meet either of those. I'm not saying people don't like it. It's obvious others do. I'm saying that as far as I'm concerned, this isn't a good comic. Fourth, We don't review a comic unless the person asks us to. I will admit that Shikersama probably didn't have a good idea of how our reviews go at the time. Saying "don't like don't read" when we were asked to review it is kind of a jerk move. Fifth, as it has been said, this is a journal comic. As I have said a few times, real life often makes for a boring comic. We have reviewed a comic that is similar to this one by Rokulily. The art was good and the writing is consistently good. While many of the things that happen in the comic happened in real life it was entertaining. This wasn't. A solution to that might be to pare down the events depicted to the ones that are the funniest. This leads me to why I feel that journal comics aren't good comics in general. The author feels the need to document everything and put it up on the web. Honestly, unless the person is an adrenaline junkie, most of what goes up is boring and has been heard, or read a hundred times before. Maybe if I had made that clearer in the review or in my responses you would have understood why I feel the way I do about this comic.
Wolfmaine at 1:01AM, Aug. 12, 2010
honestly your comic sucks more balls than most others......also its a comic about real life, so the is no story line retard....it's based on real events that happened. yeah. Also your ability to review has to be objective for it to be credible. Obviously though you have a sense of humor which differs than fine don't read it, but that doesn't mean the humor is lost on others.

" I understand it's a journal comic and it probably sticks close to real life, but there's no reason the author can't exaggerate what happened, or even fabricate a story" That really isn't the point of a journal comic. It's not document what actually happens, not to add in things that don't just 'cause. I do think he needs to find ways to make what actually happens more interesting, not by making things up but by presenting it better. Anyways, I do enjoy reading something to do for a weird reason. I know the art isn't that great and sometimes there are typos but I still keep reading it. I do agree with the suggestions for improving the comic though. also:sorry for the tl;dr post haha
Asbin at 5:21PM, Aug. 11, 2010
Lol nvm, it all loaded later, that was wierd. Damn slow internet. Much harsher review than the previous ones, makes me wonder how harsh you guys will be on mine in a couple of weeks
Asbin at 5:17PM, Aug. 11, 2010
am I the only one who sees pure blank after the first panel?
TheFlyingGreenMonkey at 3:36PM, Aug. 11, 2010
@Larry: XD

I'd like to take a moment to remind people that we have a forum for a reason and it's rather bare at the moment. I do appreciate all the comments though. @Shikersama: Thanks for not flame war. I apologize for my overreaction in the review. @Larry: At least I didn't outr- oh what I did...oops. @Hark: Wait, what? I'm being called harsh, by you? Okay so I was, but I think I overreacted more than anything. @Everyone: Sorry about the eye straining color. I'll fix it asap. As for the harshness of my side of the review, yes this is not typically the kind of comic I enjoy. I read what I read because I enjoy reading them. I found reading this a chore. I made the comparison to CAD and PA because the style of the humor in Something To Do reminds me of those comics. The pages right before the ones about the senior prom feature a page where the music suggestion list is basically "Mainstream Song by Mainstream band that both suck." I very much dislike humor like that, which is one of the reasons I dislike this comic. As I said in the review, I like to be entertained by what I read. I understand it's a journal comic and it probably sticks close to real life, but there's no reason the author can't exaggerate what happened, or even fabricate a story. He doesn't have to fight monsters per say, but right now I find this comic rather boring. Could it be the presentation? Yes, but it could be other things too. Please reply to this in the forum, it makes it much easier to keep track of things.
Genejoke at 11:26AM, Aug. 11, 2010
@Shirkersama Now that is how to take a bad review. No childish rants or flaming. hats off to you.
Genejoke at 11:23AM, Aug. 11, 2010
,y eyes hurt. good review though.
Limzee at 11:00AM, Aug. 11, 2010
But it's a journal comic. It's about high school because the artist is probably in high school. Also, why would he be fighting monsters if this is an autobiographical comic?
Larry at 10:30AM, Aug. 11, 2010
Now I don't wanna accuse anyone of anything but:

I would ease up on the pink font background or spread the words out more. They're kind of squished/compacted.
harkovast at 9:55AM, Aug. 11, 2010
Seems like you kind of exaggerated the negative here in order to make the review seem more intereting. This comic looks crappy, but its hardly something that should inspire hate! I cant help but chuckle that you're "not so acidic reviews" shtick only last 4 reviews before you started being really harsh! It is easy to be nice from the side lines I guess. Also, chagne thte colour behidn the font! Seriously, getting eye strain here.
shirkersama at 9:49AM, Aug. 11, 2010
Ouch. But I figured it would go like this, thanks for the review guys. @ Salsa I can't help but have a "jerk protagonist" because I am the protagonist and I'm a jerk. Sorry. @TFGM Yeah, I've felt that the writing for the past couple months hasn't been so good but I think I'm starting to come out of my slump and yeah...I need to quit using fillers D:
Larry at 9:35AM, Aug. 11, 2010
This review confused me. Are you saying that his journal comic is a clone of Penny Arcade and CAD in someway? That a journal comic should be about fighting monsters with barbed-wire baseball bats? Isn't the point of a journal comic to portray life as it is for the author? Why would you get mad at a journal comic for adding "no embellishments"? I can understand having problems with filler and the less than stellar art... but a majority of your criticism for this comic doesn't make any sense. It's like you are just angry because this isn't the type of comic you would traditionally enjoy.
