118: The Stare-down

TGIF. I mean, really.
I really wrote myself into a corner in this one. I had this idea for the punchline but ended up not liking it much. I spent probably an hour or so trying to re-write it, even using Zorphbert in the punchline. Things is the initial concept is good (we've all seen dogs do this!), and it has such potential. Frustrating!
And yeah, I didn't want Z to actually be begging (and enjoying the popcorn in the last panel), after all he is an alien and would probably think popcorn was a strange food to be eating. Styrofoam peanuts, anyone?
So, consider this a warm-up for the next PWITM contest (*ahem* SOON! *ahem). If you can out-wit me, go right ahead! Maybe, just maybe, I'll change it. Then you can have full bragging rights.
VOTE! See a sketch! Go now, shoo!

PP: Mwahahah.. my evil scheme is finally falling into place- make every pet owner paranoid! ahahaha! 2ndwnd: methinks most pets aren't as smart as these two... well, maybe not Fred, LOL! Fitz: I don't get why they do that.. what's so friggin interesting anyway? Well, it makes for a good comic ;0) Thanks for readin'!

LOL Zorphie's focussed look in this one is absolutely PRICELESS! And I know that look, myself. My dog's actually not the kind to beg for food, but she always gives me the look when I have some candy in my hand. She follows it like hypnotized.

I had a cat that used to watch my every bite until I gave him some... but he wasn't as smart as all that.

i hate when my dog does that! But if mine started writing stuff down I would be truly horrfied. he knows everything I do!

heh, thanks guys! I guess this proves humor is subjective...

I think it's fine the way it is. I could totally see this as an animated cartoon--especially with strips like this. Ya done good!

I agree the lines aren't as polished as some of your others. But that whole silent interaction b/w Z and the male is really well animated. I know I'd cave in.

My dog does the exact same thing. ... Well, he tries to write it down on his little clipboard, but his "no thumbs" thing always gets in the way. :P

My dog ALWAYS watches me...I wonder...Sandy?...she was just staring at me...SHE KNOWS I'M ON TO HER!

Lol! Cute!

I love it! Dogs I have own have all done this! Not saying the punchline is bad but how about... "Wasn't going to stop any time soon."
harryq at 3:04AM, Nov. 16, 2007
My cat does that when I have linguini.

I think this punchline works just great, Dawn. The human doesn't know it, but he's tying right into the theme of the strip. Works for me! Good pacing leading up to it too. Nice job.

I love it when dogs do that. It always makes me feel so bad for them... in a cute sort of way.
