Lefarce bullied me into it! D:
Ah seriously though, I wasn't trying to “troll” there. Elektro's comic offends me in quite a lot of ways, and that is what I was trying to get across.
Obviously someone requesting no porn in their contest is a reasonable thing, and child pornography is very very bad. What I was saying is that the things he has children doing in his comic are pretty awful too…at least, I definitely think they are.
I'll try to be more eloquent next time…apparently the second I get annoyed I turn into lefarce. That's pretty interesting.
These are very valid criticisms of the comic, I'll admit. Yes, what goes on in it are awful things. However, maybe I should explain why they are there.
Children, especially ones who are left to their own devices, will do stupid things. If given the opportunity, they will try to drink the stuff under the sink. This is why good parents would put locks on the drawers. However, as the comic's name implies, these kids are not raised by a good parent. They are raised by an awful one, and, sad to say, many children are in homes just like this one in real life. I am not making light of the situation, but sometimes the best way to cope with an awful situation is to throw some humor into said awful situation.
As for the “trying to commit suicide” thing, Drannik pretty much is going the same thing I am: a battle with his personal demons. Some of Negligence's stories are based on real events (not all, though). However, despite a lot of the hopelessness and despair felt by the characters, I feel that I do try to empower them and make them stronger characters in the end. After all, recently I had Drannik overpower the voice in his head to be evil, and the McKinley personality never returns.
I don't mean to sound pretentious or defensive. I admit there are somethings about the comic that do need improvement. But I feel I need to defend my comic in some form. To me, art is important, especially sequential art. That's all I have to say.
