So apparently since our nation is one of Internet addicts, we need a day where no one goes on the computer. Therefore March 24th (Saturday) is Shutdown Day, where no one turns on their computer. Can you make it?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5xprMZW6QmQ

As for me I'm not gonna be on the Internet at all on Saturday, because I listen blindly to what all Internet videos tell me to do! But seriously, it's a good idea. As an added bonus try seeing if you can go without TV or Video games too.

Not going to happen, sorry. My job involves me being on the internet, and getting paid > participating in Shutdown Day. =P

… … No. give me a selfish reason to, or even something vaguely altruistic about saving energy or something, and then I'd consider it a little.

But even on the energy slant … I'm gonna guess that more electricity is used by companies and whatnot than by the average consumer. And they certainly aren't participating.

Interesting experiment. I wish there was some higher cause for this than just “see if you can do it” though…

I wonder if shutting down my MAC and only using my PC will count? I have 3 computers running all within half an arm's length on my desk. I guess I can turn off one of them for a day. (Windows PC, MAC, and Windows laptop)

And then there's my media center PC hooked up to my TV and my Linux server in my basement…

*sigh* This experiment has opened my eyes. lol.

Nah I'm one of those addicts and for me to NOT use the ‘net that day would be hypocritical… and we can’t let that happen.

This reminds me of “Do Not Buy Gas Day”

There was a video about the Managing Editor of Forbes trying to go without technology for a week or something, all I know is he cried…and it's in this video right here:

Why is the title graphic for “could you do without?” in an urban graffiti font/style? Lol, it's amazing the implied racism you'll find innocently (presumably) placed in graphics in the media.

Good call. But what's the subtext?

I haven't watched TV since 1980. There'd have to be centuries of “Stay off the internet” days to even get close to me, as far as being unplugged goes.

WTF? Wow… I stopped watching TV a while ago, but that was only about a year or two. But 27 years??? wow.

My internet is unreliable and frequently stops working for a day or two at a time, so I already know I can skip a day, no problem.

cell phones are the scourge of the universe. they are the rudest thing EVER invented. not only do the disturb people around you when they go off but while you're talking to someone their phone will go off. then while in the middle of a conversation they will stop talking to you (sometimes in mid sentence) and answer the phone. i wish jamming devices were legal cause i would always have one.

Neither do I.

And I usually spend an entire month away from the Internet, specifically while in Norway each summer. I once in a while log on a computer for around 20 minutes to check e-mail, but other times I go a full week or two without it. However in the states I have two computers right near me…it's too convenient.

Yeah, in Holland we once had a non-cell phone day once. A lot of people didn't use their cell phones that day and most of them felt completely naked without one. I found it incredibly sad that their life almost depended on the use of their phones, but actually I'm a person that can't even live a day without spending time on the internet (unless I'm at a VERY cool place like a music festival or something) which is pretty sad too I guess. When I'm on my own and not on the internet, I'm watching a movie and when I'm not doing that either I'm drawing comics, but I can't do that the whole day long you know. So I don't think I'll join to spend a whole day off the internet and such things. I need my fun!

I do like my internet. Thought i only really use it for e-mails, comic and getting cloths i can get around here. Thought i may disssiper for a week or so when i find a good book.

Dont own a tv. But i do need my cell phone, not having a landline makes you like that.
