Anyone.... ANYONE who makes a judgement of someone based on such minimal interaction is clearly compensating for something in their own life. It speaks volumes more about them than it ever can about you. There is probably someone in their social circle they feel inferior to, so to feel better they have to hoist themselves above someone.... anyone else. For you, since you know nothing of them, their opinion should be equally discounted by you.
Especially judging people's clothing at a laundromat, yeesh. It's not like she was on the red carpet at the Oscars where fashion judgment is expected. Laundromats are meant to be casual places where everyone can be themselves.
It was suggested that the woman being older took offense of my hat..that the black beret with a black unicorn on it might of seemed like I was supporting the black Panthers...and being a older wasp..she could not be seen with me as a result..
I have a pretty sensitive nose. I can tell sitting across the table from you if you smoked earlier in the day. It's not quite as good as Hannibal Lecter naming Agent Starling's shampoo, but it's close. Not saying this is why she acted that way, but her behavior matches what I would do if someone near me smelled. I'd look them over to see if maybe it was something they had which smelled bad that I could ask them to put away or put outside. And if I couldn't see anything obvious, I'd conclude it was just their natural smell, and move further away. I probably would've responded to your greeting, but I wouldn't have mentioned the smell because some people get really offended if you tell them they smell bad (they seem to think it violates their right to go au natural without bathing). I don't hold it against people, since the abnormality is my sense of smell, not the person's smell per se. But I still have to move away for my own comfort.
There's nothing wrong with you Riley, people are just like that! It's the same when I'm in the truckstop diner and people come in and say, "I'm not eating here, this place is disgusting and full of smelly truckers!" When it's actually the best restaurant in town and all the locals eat here regularly!
People are trained to think that what Hollywood puts out (airbrushed models with tailored clothes and an army of makeup artists) is attractive and anything less than that is unattractive. Which is why about half the population thinks they're ugly when they actually look fine.
