scintillating scotoma a long word for a annoying problem.. the first time I had one I thought something was really wrong with my eyes.. and people that looked at my eyes thought I was making it up.. because there was nothing wrong with the eye.. but the connection to migraine finally got me a word for what it is… I tried explaining it to a co worker.. the other day.. because I've found that I can sort lessen the headache or migraine that follows if I take medication try to drink water and lower the lights when I first see the effect starting… vs waiting for it to get bad… anyway hope you never have it but its mostly annoying ..if you google them you will find that people have made gif to show the effect and what they see.. it annoying
And now I finally have a word for the effect.
I remember the first time I noticed it. I was driving on the way home from Walmart. It was only a small part of my vision that was compromised so I didn't have any problems. I didn't notice a migraine though. If I had one I must not have put the two together.
I've had those, they're odd and annoying. Mine start as a fuzzy/scintillating dot in the center of my vision. Then the dot slowly expands into a ring and once the ring reaches the edge of my vision it's over. Weirdly I haven't had migraines from them and only a few times got any headache at all, once a strong one. Been a while since I had any, no idea what caused them or made them stop. I do semi-often have a little flash of light at the edge of my vision when I turn my eyes or head after sitting too long.
Oh migranie is a hell to have. and the worst thing?
it doesn't need to hurt.
the feeling of sickness and wanting to barf and can't handle much light since it hurts the eyes.
i found it is good to eat crackers with abit salt in them. anything with salt. it helps alittle against sickness.
Do note that seeing flashes of light sometimes with a dark curtain over part of your vision, are symptoms of a detached retina. See a doctor immediately, as this can lead to permanent blindness if not treated ASAP.
Your symptoms are slightly different, but others should be aware that visual distortions like this sometimes do point to a serious problem with the eye.

That sounds very disorienting, and it must be horrible when it happens at work and people don't understand that you need to take care of it. I'm glad you got through it at least and I hope the migraine didn't last too long.

Omg, my ex used to complain about seeing "colorful worms" all the time! He drew some pictures of them, that look just like those gifs.

Sorry to hear about this. I hope that you can find a good way to mitigate the episodes and don't let it get you down.
