Prologue p8

When I first got this page back from Brent, the first awareness of what we were actually creating was beginning to sink in. We started the book back in 1999, and the American horror comics market was pretty dormant. Warren Ellis was beginning to mix things up with STRANGE KISS at Avatar, but there wasn't a lot of visceral horror books on the market. By the time we finished the book in 2003, a mini horror renaissance was under way thanks to books like 30 DAYS OF NIGHT by Steve Niles and Ben Templesmith, so I think we hit the market at the right time.
The page itself is intentionally obscured, allowing the reader to take what they want from it. The hard of heart can certainly discern some of the more violent activities occurring on panel if they look hard enough, while the more casual reader can obviously get the point of what is going on without dwelling too deeply on the details.
I'm a big fan of Brent's character designs for the demons, which have a wide breadth of range as we're introduced to more and more of them as the story unfolds. The demons genuinely look like they're enjoying their “jobs”, which is key in conveying the extent of their depravity to you, the gentle reader.

Snow Flower, um uh duh, it's a horror comic. What do you expect - angsty vampires who look like the female heroine could beat him up with a stick? This stuff is not suppose to be great, its suppose to be horrible. Have you ever scene the Exorcist? Now that's horrible - crucifix to the crotch - ouch! But yet it is considered one of the greatest movies ever made. Anywho, tis' for horror, so don't expect to open a horror themed comic and not expect the worse (Just stay away from Japanese horror comics if you think this is bad. Man those guys are some sick f*&%s). My comment on the comic so far: It does a great job at creating fear to go along with the senseless violence. Even though the gore factor is at a minimum (it could be a lot worse), it is poignant enough to put dread and disgust in you. It's like remembering a horrific scene that you witnessed a long time ago (cause you got some majorly bad PTSD from all of it). Oh and then it is a loved family (good usage of the photograph - makes you feel sick to the tum seeing what those demons did to them).

Demons? Or just the Zerg out for a pleasure cruise?

Nice. You definitely need a deep appreciation for the morbid to enjoy this comic.

How could anyone like something horrible like this?? I'm just...sickened. Maybe this thing has great perspective and shading and generally "winning" artwork...and maybe it was published and bought and all that, but I regret even taking a look now! The subject matter...it's horrible!!
