Scene One p3

Brent really captured my vision of the Sarah Bentley character to the tee. It was important to me that she come off as a genuine woman, free from the traditional stereotypes typically associated with female characters in comics. Our Sarah is an intelligent woman who possesses a reserved confidence and isn't concerned with superficiality.
This becomes an important counter-balance to Joshua Brand, who makes his first cameo as an adult in the second to last panel of this page, a character that almost relishes in outward confidence and masks his inner being with a number of external facades. The interactions between the two characters were particularly fun to script, and I found myself concentrating more and more on their chemistry as the book unfolded.
Most of the objects in Joshua's home are from African, East Indian, and American Indian lore. I wanted to get across a worldly knowledge of all things spiritual, as the supernatural clearly knows no bounds. I vaguely recall sending Brent some reference material, but he did a good job picking out many of the objects on his own accord. Thank god for the Internet!

Yesss. I'm actually tired of dropdead gorgeous, busty blondes and such being detectives and crime fighters and what-not. We all know that those types spend all their time in the gym and at the salon, and NOT obsessing over their cool careers. :P
