Comic queuing! Use the auto-update feature to get popular

Page queuing seems to be a feature a lot of people overlook for some reason, especially comics new to this site that want to use us as a mirror; they just do a huge upload dump in one go, which is worse than USELESS for them because after the first upload they permanently disappear from the front page because they don't update, which also takes them off of the comic lists as well due to the same reason. So no one will ever find their comic after the FIRST day. Which means that uploading their comic here is a lot of work for nothing.
Whereas instead they could be using their massive archive to work FOR them!

Use our comic queuing feature to set your pages to auto-update daily, weekly or monthly etc. this will keep your comic visible on the front page and make you active in the ranking list. People WILL come and see your comic.

Page queuing is a super simple property to use, just change the live date to some time in the future and your comic page will update at midnight PST on that date. You can do that with up to ten pages at the same time on the same form: fire and forget. You could set daily updates till 10 years into the future if you like. There is no limit to how many pages you can set to auto update.

It's also a very useful feature if you have a comic that updates on a specific date and you wont be around on that day. It's not just for comics with a big archive.

So if you haven't used it already, try it :)

I'm on 10GB there, ad free... I think I pay $1 a month.

I just learned about the PB drama from these posts and whoop there it is!

With Photobucket, it's requiring someone pay about $100 a year to externally link to images, and about $400 a year to embed images. So nobody can see any of the images anymore unless the person who posted them has a paid account.

Re:photobucket, it depends on your membership and country. I stopped posting photos because the functionality of the site is awful on my computers. It's like I'm back to a 23K dial up.

@Stinger- that sounds alarming

Ozoneocean at 6:25AM, July 7, 2017

Comics should all show up at 12pm PST. Maybe they ARE moved down... I don't know. It would be a good idea to let people post them at the time of their choosing as well as the date. That way we could test it easier and avoid comics going up in a big group.

At least some autoupdates show up on the front page still, I think, I normally see the same 6-7 comics on there every day, assuming they aren't being updated manually. Any chance there's just more than 10 comics using the auto-queue? And are you sure about that? Photobucket made it so you have to pay an extortionate amount for linking on external sites the other day, so any images that used it now just show an ad for the service. (Actually, looks like yours aren't affected oz, for whatever reason. Kawaii's are all gone to me though)

Hey, maybe it is fixed since last time I tried!! Be easy enough to test - I'll mess around with it...! Hey here's a question? If you pre-post a page for a future date, what TIME does it post? Exactly at midnight for pacific time zone (U.S.)? Maybe they posted in the past but just got quickly moved down the line by other comics posting later that day... I didn't think about that!

Ozoneocean at 5:16AM, July 7, 2017

It sucks if that's the case because that was one of the things I specifically paid Alexey to fix from out of my own pocket! Over $600 in extra fixes I paid for after we'd got through with the stuff that was covered by the donations. We ran experiments and it was fixed.

KimLuster at 5:02AM, July 7, 2017

The last time I posted more than one page using this feature, when it came time for a new page to post, it didn't show up on the frontpage (although it did become viewable!! That's been a year or so ago. If this has been corrected I'll give it another shot down the line!!

Ozoneocean at 4:21AM, July 7, 2017

Stinger- I still use photobucket. I have had a lot of issues with it in the past but it seems OK at the moment...?

Ozoneocean at 4:19AM, July 7, 2017

Bravo, are you saying that auto-updated comics don't show up on the front page now? I know that USED to be a but but we fixed it I thought.

Outside of personal real time control, there is no downside to queuing up an archive or buffer and getting back to work on New pages as opposed to babysitting weekly updates. I used to work with a ten page buffer and had it all preloaded so I would read and respond to comments and otherwise put all my attention to keeping the production going. But when that avatar stopped popping up on the front page when the new page hit, I took to babysitting each page debut and it has been a pain. I tried it this week and the notice did not come up on the front page. So I went back to babysitting. But then to some I don't have a comic worth reading unless that front page beats them over the head with the fact that I updated.

stinger9 at 2:29AM, July 7, 2017

I've always felt the downsides outweighed the positives, manually updating is always the better option as far as I'm concerned, but when someone wants a "dump-and-leave" option, it's certainly better than just posting their entire archive at once! (BTW, is Kawaii aware of the whole Photobucket drama right now? Don't think anyone else was using it for news, but wow, it broke a lot of newsposts.)

Let the site do the work. Stretching out an archive using the queuing function also helps a creator have more time to create without a hiatus between updates. The big archive updates away and you're free to do new pages!
