I am going to be writing an article bi-monthly for The Duck until I either run out of things to say, or more likely, they tell me to stop. I decided that i wanted to focus on comics on the site that in my opinion deserve a little more limelight than they currently appear to be getting…sort of like getting featured but with far less fanfare or reward!

I came up with the title “Drawing Attention” and in each article i will try to draw your attention towards a comic that is worth checking out.

So with that in mind, the comic that i found was Boys Land. I had never read or seen this comic before and knew nothing about it, but was drawn to it by the style it was presented in. It kind of reminded of the obvious things, like Pokemon and Yo Kai Watch but at the same time was striking up something original

Here is the creators blurb;
“A manga style webcomic about a boy caught up in a crazy adventure inside a world filled with monsters! How crazy is that? Meeting with friend and foe, Marco and Leo strike it out to find adventure and the untold treasures and secrets it holds. -This comic MAY contain mature elements such as: harsh language, violence, graphic imagery, and content meant for an audience 16+ years old- With that in mind, please enjoy the comic (-‿◦)”

The story centres around Marco who has found himself in the monster filled land where he allies himself with a kind of cowardly lion called Leo. The art starts strong and shows improvement over time but the story is interesting and has a good ‘toungue-in-cheek’ humour to it. What is evident though, is that time and effort has been put into the creation of the monsters with interludes that often cover their particular skills and attributes

The characters are all very different, each having strong personalities that conflict with one another, and this adds to the enjoyment of the comic, as I often found myself connecting more with one set of characters and not all.

As at the time of writing, this comic has 9 Likes - one of which is me since reading it. I recommend anyone who enjoys an easy read, particularly of a manga style, to check out Boys Land.
