Let's go forward in time to the past so we can get back to the future and kill our grandfather and be our own ancestor while we step on a bug and change the course of evolution 200 million years in the future and doom the Morlocks to a date with Doctor Who, while Bill and Ted drive a Delorean in the Old West and save Fry's dog as it waits out the front of the Pizza place… Time travel is fun to talk about, but it's easy to mess up because paradoxes in plots pop up all over the place as timelines intersect and cross over and over, getting tangled and logically prevent events that have already happened from happening!
Here we chat about some of that as well as our fave time travel stories, like Dr Who, Bill and Ted, The Tomorrow People, Playing Beati Bow, Back to the Future, The Time Machine, A Connecticut Yankee in the Court of King Arthur, Army of Darkness, Outlander etc. Examples abound! Time travel stories can allow us as an audience to visit a distant time with ourselves looking at the future or past through the eyes of the time traveller, or their naive helper like Marty from Back to the Future or one of Dr Who's companions. They can give us outlandish adventures or bizarre and complex mysteries that make the most of the time paradoxes.
Time travel is fantasy fiction for us because we can only go forwards at the same rate… but it exists in physics as a logical theory and paradoxes can be overcome in specific ways, so it's a possibility, just one that no one can work out how to usefully achieve. Which is why we have stories! So what are YOUR fave time travel stories and why?
This week Gunwallace has given us something different! Rat Test Blues - Gunwallace doing his own thing here! The dangers and worries of CoVid-19 are universal, and New Zealand is no exception. Here Mr Gunwallace gives voice to his and all our apprehensions when faced with a malady when there’s a pandemic about… “Do I have Covid or just a cold?” Only the Rapid Antigen Test can say for sure. Awesome blues number, that guitar roars and sings and Gunwallace’s vocals are perfect.

@Essay- very cool approach

Sorry for the plug, but I actually played with some minor time travel in Fusion recently, but you had to actually be able to be outside the confines of the universe (i.e., outside time itself) in order to have a small window to play with. The "nature" of time begins at https://www.theduckwebcomics.com/Essay_Bee_Comics_Presents_Fusion/5629259/ and the way the fluid nature of the present can be manipulated for limited time travel is at https://www.theduckwebcomics.com/Essay_Bee_Comics_Presents_Fusion/5633456/

I never liked the alternative realities idea. It's messy and inelegant 😅 I like the idea of time travel where whatever change you make was supposed to happen anyway and everything is always automatically cleaned up by causality. The trouble with alternate realities is that it's not just was we do that causes them but it's what everything does down to the photons and the qauntam level so you'd have infinite realities every time, every Pico second! It's ridiculous.

Had another idea. Imagine being a manifestation of death, outside of the time stream, and having to process paperwork for each death. Half a world is destroyed, and then brought back, meaning you have to process the paperwork for them then, and when they actually die. Another issue is things like demonic contracts. Demon gets a persons soul when they die. They die, time travel occurs and changes things so they live. Is the demon out of a soul, was it doubled, or can it claim the soul from the person who had been made to survive when they die. I can see so much plot fodder here.

There are a couple of general theories about time travel researchers look at. Once is that you can't change the past, only facilitate it (or avoid making changes) else you may cause a paradox. These are considered VERY BAD, in case you thought otherwise. The other main one is divergent time lines where traveling back in time causes the time line to split into what there would have been if not for the time travel, and if the changes had occurred.(This may create alternate realities.) Now think about all the time travel done in comics to fix problems. Imagine how many horrible worlds where evil won are out there trying to find ways to access the main reality to expand their power.

@essaybee - I will have to check that out! @oz - You should try it :D Chrono Cross was just remastered so you can find it on STEAM now.
Ozoneocean at 6:08PM, May 10, 2022
I've heard a lot about Chrono Triger but have never tried it 😅
EssayBee at 5:11PM, May 10, 2022
Jason Moon--I've enjoyed Another Eden on my phone and it's from the same crew and has a similar feel. And there's a lot of time travel.

Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross+

@marcorossi yeah, time tunnel was pretty fun. The setup really reminds me of how they did Stargate.
Ozoneocean at 7:24AM, May 10, 2022
I think I remember that... I remember a pocket watch at least. Now Quantum Leap was a really clever approach to time travel! Only jumping within a person's timeline and then only INTO other peopleeans you avoid a lot of paradoxes... One of my faves a I forgot to mention was Time Bandits. That movie is SO cool ♥️
marcorossi at 7:22AM, May 10, 2022
The Time Tunnell! Present among the pictures though not in the text. I loved it when I was a kid! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Time_Tunnel

You already mentioned two of my faves: Army of Darkness and A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court. Although I don't remember much about it now (since it's probably been decades since I've watched it), I remember as a kid liking Voyagers, and wanting to get a pocket watch because of it. (What I remember was that the two protagonists traveled through time with a pocketwatch device. There'd be a red light on the watch when there was something wrong with the time they were in, they'd fix the problem, the light would turn green, and they'd jump to the next point in time. Kind of a precursor to Quantum Leap, I suppose.)
