Well… as you can (hopefually) tell, Kaede is watching Zorii and friends movements, even when sleeping. As long as she has that feather in her hand she can use her seeing powers whenever she wants. She didn't just look into it for a second, though. She was watching for a few hours… the chapter just starts at the end of her sleep… if any of that makes sense.
