Episode 165 - Mecha Madness!

Today Banes and I have a little talk about weaponry and mecha in webcomic- how do you come up with it? How much research do you do? Should it actually work? Is coolness the only factor to consider? How detailed do you go when you design it? how far away from reality and cartoony is appropriate? We consider most of those questions and a few more, there's a LOT to get into on a topic like this and we really only just barely scratch the surface! In my own webcomic Pinky TA I've done a LOT of research and design work to get my mecha and weaponry looking right, so this is a subject dear to me. But we all have our own opinions on this, not just in webcomics but in games, movies, anime, and manga. In this installant of our THRILLING SciFi adventure, space hero Ozoneocean is wooing the devastatingly attractive Omeleh, Princess of the Mushroom people, while the dashing Captain Banes warns of impending disaster! We asked people to contribute their own notions about what's cool and interesting in SciFi, as well as what they don't like and what they do not think works well. We had so many great contributions that we decided to split it into two parts and this is the second and final one!

What I did on my holidays... Banes and Ozoneocean are back for the new year! Happy new year everybody! Banes and Ozone chat about all the non-comic stuff they did over the new years break, just a lot of general banter, jokes, and back and forth, talking about stuff we felt was cool and fun over that time. The kind of stuff you do over the holidays!
Episode 140 - Ducks of future past, episode ZERO

Big changes are coming! In this Quackcast we talk about what happened to the duck, what's happening now and what we're trying to make happen in the future. Banes and I chat about all this stuff. Some the most important aspects we mention are the new current domain name for the site http://www.theduckwebcomics.com, a possible name change for the Quackcast, the help from JustNoPoint and ComicRocket in getting us online again, new helpers coming along to do things like features (kawaiidaigakusei replaces Skool in doing features), and all sorts of bug fixes and new features for the site now a real possibility. Then we get onto a lighter note with a discussion about some Superhero movies and cool Anime series.

For Quackcast 127 we asked the DD community about the traditional print comics that influenced them over the years, from their early days onward. No webcomics! Only the old printed kind in comic books or newspapers, or gum wrappers or... however else people got their comicbook goodness. And it was TOTALLY ok to talk about mainstream comics like Batman and Superman if that was their thing or obscure stuff no one ever heard of or weird embarrassing crap like He-Man comics, whatever, it's all good, we wanted to know! We got quite a few responses and we thank everyone for those, It also gave us a chance to do our funny voices again, which we appreciated!

Continuing our technical Quackcast series, Banes and I talk about vector art illustration program Adobe Illustrator, what it is, what it does, and some of its uses in comic art. It's another one of those big, expensive, industry standard programs with a LOT of power and potential to do many different amazing and cool things that you'll never more than scratch the surface off in comic art, but what it DOES do in comics it pretty much does that better than anything else. Next week we hope to interview the awesome, amazing, mysterious, and frequently featured Abt_Nihil!

Fact one, BANES invented Freals! In this Quackcast that we recorded weeks and weeks ago, Banes and I read out many of the funny and interesting facts from the Cool Facts thread in the Random Discussion part of our forum. Then we added lots of funny asides. We thought it was hilarious and we hope you do to. The Cool Facts thread was started by Subcultured, one of our original and best mods ever on DD, and has been contributed to by many DDers over the years.
