Episode 110 - Ozonehayseed and Banesbillybobbubba Do Old-Time Features

Jan 28, 2013

This week two down-home good'ol boys escape from the clutches of crazy alien probers and wind up in the middle of a cornfield crop-circle, only to discover week's Quackcast topic: Old time features! Yes, that's right, this is the second time we probe our way into secondhand features, exposing them to the light of day again, trying them on for size and seeing how they fit with current fashions. To that end we've re-looked at some real beauties! Some are still going and some that've since stoped updating, but all six deserve another look 'cause it's all mighty fine work that we are proud to have up on DD!

Hahaha, I can totally imagine you as Vulcan!

Vig's Alive! (alive, alive) [You have to imagine that in a Flash Gordon movie voice] It was life that got in the way of comics, as it has a wont to do. Vig is very grateful (and a little bemused) for all the love sent Hoicusha's way. Hocusha will return someday ... just don't hold your breath.

Thanks for that info on Hocusha. Man I wish that was still going! :( @Abt- that's the genius of Banes. Good on him for his focus on two on going community projects!

Yeah, the world Vig created with Hocusha is amazingly complex, well thought out, and epic, with a huge cast of characters that are intelligently crafted and rounded. The story so far has only scratched the surface of the deep, wonderful, plot that lies underneath it all. As a fan of the comic I can only hope there is more one day. I was really looking forward to being a small part of it.

@Gunwallace - thanks for the heads up; the comic looks so good... hopefully Vig's okay, as you say. And who knows? Maybe we'll see a continuation at some point. That'd be great.

Re: Hocusha: In the middle of 2012 Vig asked for help writing the comic. Vig had got writer's block, and so I collaborated and we wrote a finish to the current chapter, which Vig then started drawing, and it looked wonderful. We also started work on another short story together for a print anthology. But then Vig stopped answering emails. I hope everything is okay. One of the negatives of working via the web; I have no idea if Vig just got busy elsewhere, or if space junk fell from the sky?

Hahaha, that's my secret- using my normal accent to sound smart ^_^

kawaiidaigakusei at 12:37AM, Jan. 29, 2013

It is amazing just how different accents perpetuate stereotypes. Oz, I bursted out laughing when you started discussing the stylistic aspects of a comic's linework in a way that would have sounded super intellectual in your normal voice versus the Matthew McConaughey sound you were sporting for the entire hour. My mind felt like it was going to explode!
