Episode 121 - Banes talks Toonboom Studio

Apr 15, 2013

This is another Quackcast in our technical series focussing on the stuff people use to make webcomics. This week we focus on the art program chiefly used by Banes in the making of his comic, Typical Strange, and that program is Toonboom studio! Toonboom is mainly for doing cell style digital animation but it's also pretty good for doing drawings and Banes tells us just exactly HOW. Next week we'll be looking at Adobe Illustrator.

Hahahaha! That was a little bit of fun ^_^ All the different tracks were lined up and I played them all by accident... I liked the effect so I mixed them for the intro.

I thought my browser was crashing for a moment during the beginning, not funny you guise... but interesting program :)

I may have to try Twisted brush too. Learning about Toonboom was good for me as well- if I get into 2D animation again I'd love to use something like that. I wanted to do traditional animation for my Pinky animated stuff, but Flash was all I had and it wasn't the best for that sort of thing.

Thanks ejb, that's great of you to say, and much appreciated. ...I hoped I wasn't as boring as I felt...haha. Twisted Brush is really cool, yeah. A lotta fun.

I'm always interested in hearing about creators' process in making their comics. Great stuff guys. And yes, the highend version of Toon Boom is one of the standards in animation now, when you're talking 2D. I really like TwistedBrush, which Banes mentioned in passing, for its simulated natural media brushes. It's a fun program.
