Episode 61 - SOPA, PIPA, ACTA, copyright and webcomics

It's a rather dry Quackcast this week I'm afraid as I tackle a subject that has been very much in the news lately and a hot topic all over the net- and that is all the various proposed laws and trade agreements covering copyright, intellectual property and how they can possibly affect webcomics, webcomic hosting and online creative communities in general. My take on these things is a bit individual and editorial so I'm sorry for that, but I did do a modicum of research beforehand so it's not all opinion! We also have the 5th installment of our ongoing DD comedy soap with great voice acting by many clever people and once again featuring the brilliant edditing skills of Banes. There's even some clever digs at copyright and IP!

Ozone, I must be honest, I haven't always agreed with your point of view from debates I've read in the forums over the years, but I think you have explained and presented the SOPA issue fantastically and I encourage people to use your podcast to make others realize how dangerous is for our precious internet the lack of protection it currently has. I applaud you, Sr, really well done. On a lighter note, I loved the batman-mccain joke from the radio show, it made me lol. Keep up the great job, I think DD Quackcast has matured from the days you two were a bit too nervous in them and now has become a quality addition to the site.

What a dichotomy: the wackiness of the soap (awesome editing again, Mr B) and a considered, rather sobering look at the potential of legal "corraling". Thank you, Oz. This is one cast that I'll listen to again much more closely.

Thanks for taking the time to listen man! I learned a lot too from reading about each of those proposed laws... I really didn't know about some of the things that were proposed.

Interesting times we live in...thanks for putting in the time to unravel some of this stuff! You had insightful thoughts on it; with our technology advancing at a pace it never has before, your notions about fully engaging with that technology by these corporate behemoths makes good sense. The way that finding alternative fuel sources makes sense, too...if I had to guess, I'd wager that the changing world will FORCE them to adapt (in a hopefully forward-thinking way). Good 'cast. I know more than I did before. What a happy accident that all those asides about copyrights appeared in this episode of the soap!!
