SS7 47 Hunting down Lenore
skyangel on Feb. 25, 2020
The story so far:
Way back in time the strange and rather mysterious Lenore arrived in town with a travelling sideshow troupe called Dr Macabre's Theatre of Darkness. Some of the locals resented their presence and none more so than Lord Carlingford whose land they had chosen to settle on. A band of thugs assembled under Carlingford's control descended upon the unwary travellers one night and set about them, torching some of the caravans as things got out of control. As a result Lenore lost her husband and child in the blaze and the following morning after burying them on Carlingford's land she laid a curse upon ‘his very name’ and then sort revenge.
Some weeks later Carlingford was found dead in his study, lying half burnt to death in the grate and with wounds all over his body that gave the impression he had been dragged there by a flock of birds. After the inquest news of the peculiar death reached the ears of the Witchfinder General who came down to investigate and is now in hot pursuit of Lenore!

And a man's greatest weakness is his ego, and his dick ... Man's _two_ greatest weaknesses is his ego and his dick, and an attractive woman ... Let me just go outside and try this again

"A woman's greatest weakness is...her heart". What a pervasive cultural message! Especially when that "weakness" is exploited (usually by men) to get whatever they want. That theme drives the narrative of I don't know how many of the movies in my collection from 20th century - maybe half, or more. Love is the greatest strength of all of us! On another note, I'm sorry but I found the separation between panels 2 and 3 momentarily confusing: the tree/cross didn't register as a divider, nor did the little gap in the bottom border of the panels.

Fred: You're totally right, we normally put a white line between the panels if I've left them borderless and on this occasion we have both missed it, so hopefully it's clearer now :)

Lots of foliage - nice change from nightclubs. Nice page...

Bear: Thanks. It certainly felt nice to be drawing some different scenery for a change! :)

Nic: I was quite happy with it but it was hard for poor Becky trying to work out which white bits were foliage, sky or Lenore!

So back to Victorian England with this eccentric who thinks he's the Witchfinder General from the English Civil War . . . hmm . . . be careful Lenore, eccentrics can be harmless and well intentioned, or they can be downright dangerous. ............................................... Oh, and nice strip. Love Lenore peering darkly through the foliage and definite Vincent Price vibe about The General.

Fruitbat: Yes, he's twice as nutty as the original recipe! ;)
