Ooo-kay… So here's a subject that's not easy to portray and not come off as a jerk– abuse. I was having some second thoughts about this page but I sort of need it for the direction I want the story to go. Also, it was actually mentioned in an earlier comic that Madeline had abusive parents and this being Madeline's backstory it would seem weird to me if it didn't come up.

@usedbooks: That's an angle I hadn't really considered–thanks! I don't recall seeing Kylie in your comic, has she actually appeared yet?
@Peipei: Yeah, I'd like to have Dee's jacket!
@theBSDude: Thanks man!
@Trevor: The reason why I suggest Quimby's right off is because they're in Chicago. there's other places to ask about consignment as well but I think that Quimby's is a great place to start out.
@oldguy: Thanks a lot, dude!
@magickmaker: They do sort of, don't they?
@Zephryion: Thanks!
@khard12: Yeah, in St. Loraine there are no trees. Whether Dee thinks so or not maybe Madeline should leave St. Loraine just to see a real tree.
@amanda: There's a few clock towers in my town, my favorite one's the tower at Union Station. None of them really look much like the one I drew here though.
@Steely Gaze: I'll admit that until now we'd really known very little about both Madeline and Dee. So I thought it would be good to explore both characters a little further.
I like drawing the city and getting into its character as well. The way I imagined it St. Loraine might have been fairly nice once but things went wrong somewhere.
@darkwaterfey: Huge compliment coming from you!

Oh goodie. He looks more like a dude now ^^ Last page too but he still had a few bishie moments in it XD And when has showing abuse in a comic made the author look like a jerk. Unless the camera pans back and we see the abuser is her father named Patrick Devine and you spend 30 pages abusing her and talking about how awesome this feeling is. *Note to self... do this in a later issue of Devon Legacy...

Well then, I'll be sure to give them a try! Thanks for the recommendation. So, how're things with you lately?

It may not be essential to the story but you would regret later if it were left out.

That can't be an easy environment to grow up in - and it would be difficult to convey it with feeling and sensitivity on your part. However, I don't think anyone will read this and go, "Wow, an abused character in his comic? I bet he wants to beat his own children." ^.^

Well, I hope someone kicks whichever parent's ass. She has tough frieds, they can do it.

Kylie was in Chapter 43, and she had a brief cameo later. She's one of Tristan's acquaintances. Poor Madeline, everyone has used and abused her, physically, verbally, emotionally. Come on, Maddie! You have every right to snap and go on a killing spree!
