I think Mindmistress thinks the HUniverse is an interesting place to visit, but she wouldn't want to live there…she has had nothing but bad luck since she came there.
A lot of Mindmistress' crossovers started as fan art. I used to send out fan art that would usually have Mindmistress meeting the other person's character, usually with humorous results. The Dasien/Mindmistress relationship started because of this fanart, which we later tooled into a CROSSOVERLORD page here. Similarly, I imagined a meeting between Energize and Mindmistress, and thought to myself–electrically-charged, massively powerful hero shakes hand with woman in metal armor. Lightning Lad shaking hands with Iron Man, came to mind…with shocking results. Ouch!
Then the dialogue just wrote itself, and I sent the fan art…with a still-smoking Mindmistress muttering double-entendres after recovering from a painful handshake from Energize…to Nepath.
…Who I don't believe ever used it. *Grin*
So…I retooled it for this.
It's kind of funny—given her personality, you wouldn't think Mindmistress would lend herself to funny lines–but there's something in her dry delivery that just cries out for humor. Most humor these days is of the DUMB AND DUMBER variety…to have protagonists who are totally clueless. But I think the best humor has at least one character who is very, very smart. So she can be Jeeves to someone else's Bertie Wooster, Dr. Gregory House to whatever hapless patient he's treating at the moment.
Where is Mindmistress taking Energize via her “catwalk”?
You'll get the answer the week after this coming one. First, we have some unfinished business at the HUniverse, Tuesday and Thursday of next week…
…Which is also next year. Happy New Year! Thanks for reading!
i sense the white cat already becoming an integral part of this story, i can feel it in my spleen. especially because he is not there and most likely reporting to his evil master!
Yeah, it wasn't the art that was the problem, it was just the perspective you were using. Wait... that doesn't sound right. The perspective WAS right, it was just whatever source material or something. It was just the jaw.
dont worry too much on the art al, the way you draw is pretty damn good and unique compared to other webcommics i read.
also, if you look, there is an astroboy picture in the second panel... when are we going to see him in a crossover ; )
Well, Neo, it's a couple of things, and the fault probably lies with the composition. The face is derived from a collage of images, which is my usual process to draw something---the face probably deriving from this shot of Liv Tyler in the STRANGERS. (Liv Tyler is who I model MM after, as Gil Kane modelled Hal Jordan after Paul Newman, C.C. Beck modelled Captain Marvel after the young Fred McMurray, and Superman was modelled after Douglas Fairbanks SENIOR, nor Jr.)
But it was also a perspective shot--with her face and right shoulder in the foreground, tapering off. (You can see it in how her right forearm is tapering off, and how her left hand is MUCH smaller than you would expect---also how the Psyche-staff is starting out large and getting smaller as it falls.)
But in adding the lightning effects, the thing that would make that MOST obvious, MM's much smaller right hand in Energize's, was lost in the lightning's glare---
So---it was an experiment, that obviously didn't work with you. Hey, they can't all be gems.
By the way, when I did my HU Chronicles story, I asked Abt Nihil who I should use as a real-life reference for BOMBSHELL, and although you'd have to ask him for the artistic reference, I will say that she has been a Playboy centerfold.
@NeoDarklight: Well I'd say that a few hundred volts/amps/watt(ever)s might make one's mouth exceed normal aperture settings... except it just occurs to me that people actually clench their teeth when electrified due to muscle contraction (ooops...! :D)
@NeoDarklight I'm pretty sure that's just the perspective making you think that. Nonetheless I am a bit of a singer and you'd be surprised how big your mouth needs to open to get a note to sound right. The higher the note, the more you need to open your jaw to keep your tongue out of the way and prevent squeaking from a compressed airway. Your tongue always wants to help out with the higher notes but it just gets in the way... *shakes head* *sighs*
Panel 2: Mouths do not open that wide. Ever. I know; I have loose socket joints, including my jaw, and even with dislocating it I can't get it to open that wide.
Anonymous: partly it's a weakness on Schroeder's(my) part (not MM's) to split up sentences this way, but in this PARTICULAR case---she's pausing because she's panting in between phrases...she's just been tased, basically. So there's more justification here than in MOST cases. *Grin*
This page makes me feel more sorry for Energize than Mindmistress. Sure, no one wants to be electrocuted (unless of course..you do. I don't judge.) but those "performance" jokes are just brutal.

I've... never... understood why MM has to... talk... like that. Doesn't... seem... like the kind of thing an... intelligent person... would do. In real life it would be... rather annoying.

Last line, panel 4, the awesomeness never ends!

I think Energize has been taking handshaking lessons from Joker. And making the "Oops?" a question made the line even better.

If only there was a white cat on a brown leather couch to distract people.

Also, AL uses photo referencing so it's quite possible he has indeed found/used a pic where someone's mouth IS open that wide...

OUCH. I guess Mindmistress should be happy it didn't fry her onboard circuits too! Neat trick though, the Joker would be jealous of that joy buzzer!

One of the jokes that got shoe-horned onto this very page is Parker taking a pot shot at Mindmistress' tendency for dramatic pauses.

Definitely one of the more Freudian moments in the series thus far.
