smkinoshita--I understand your dislike of the cloning convention. However, in this case, the cloning was a means to understand the genetic workings of superheroes, which you know the military would love to weaponize for our own security. And, although this is a major plot element of the series, the biggest threat has yet to be revealed (but will be by the end of this issue). (And before anyone gets upset at the thought of the series ending, as currently planned, it will take 12-15 issues to tell the whole story, and that could grow as I get into the next story arcs--especially with my meandering storytelling.)
Legend Comics--A Hero Holocaust would presumably get rid of all the heroes. Are you saying Major Power is a hero? (Of course he'll be promoted that way. It's a matter of whether you believe the propaganda).
Ozmandious--Are you asking why she's powered up in the last panel? I framed the 4th panel poorly. I should have had Major Power leering at Brooder so you know he was addressing the "fragile little skulls" line directly to him. The last panel is Fusion stepping between Brooder and the Major--even if she doesn't like Brooder, she doesn't like anyone threatening one of her allies.
jamoecw--To clarify a bit on her powers (this will be explained later, but no harm in explaining it here) . . . Fusion has the ability to fuse with every atom that comes into contact with her body (and hair). However, she never uses that much power and only fuses batches of atoms (usually hydrogen) around her to create whatever amount of energy she needs. Her powers also reflexively react to the environment around her, so she doesn't burn (or fuse) the ground she stands on and she could shake a person's hand while powered up. Her powers also negate any harmful energy (e.g., radioactive elements) that is generally produced from a fusion reaction (actually, Bob consumes the "harmful" energies as food, rendering them inert), so she is not a danger to those around her (which amazed Dr. Electric in Issue #2). Of course, no villains (nor heroes--including Fusion) know of the nuances of her powers. (And there are LOTS of other nuances.) Bob does, so perhaps I can persuade him to do a Q&A.
Back from vacation, so time to comment on your comments. (Due to word limits on comments, this will be several posts.)
I guess the big question is how Fusion's powers would match up against Major Power. I don't want to say too much, but Captain Stupendous--like Al said--is pretty much like Superman, and Major Power is his clone. The question is, can Fusion fuse any and all atoms she comes into contact with or are there some that she can't? Well . . . you'll have to wait and see. However, Stig Hemmer's bet on the loser is accurate.
hmm, i like her spunk, but i am not entirely sure if she would win. if it was the original with a decent chunk of experience it wouldn't even be a question that she would lose, but he is essentially just another newb with cool powers. as far as destroying his hand if he punched her, there are two factors that protect his hand, one is that he has some unknown level of durability which may withstand fusion's power to some degree, two in that she doesn't destroy what she is standing on when she powers up, and thus contact isn't the main factor in destruction. perhaps his durability is insufficient, and maybe the bottom of her feet are a weak point, so he might lose his hand.
can she take him?
@smkinoshita so what did you think about young justice? Superboy was partially accelerated, and partially programmed. Then spent the rest of the season deciding who he was.
Major Prick never really thought this through, eh? A hero holocaust would eventually end with his own demise. I wonder if the original Captain is wiser than his clone?
Last time I tried to comment, the Duck wouldn't let me then promptly had server issues. What I was gonna say was I'm pretty sure Brooder's just goading him into revealing as much information as possible.
I was also going to note that I found cloning -- as in the insta-grow-with-programming a weak plot device. The only time cloning is interesting is when it's used to see what a character would be like if he/she had grown up under different circumstances -- revealing how much the author felt we are shaped by our environment.
I get the feeling she's gonna realize the problem with that one line sometime soon, and be really embarrassed.
...
I for one don't even want to think about his 'major prick'. But I'm probably reading into it wrong.
And Mods? If this is up there more than once, please delete. I clicked delete several times, but had it show back up after. Thanks.

@al: If she had enough energy available to her, she probably could beat him down. The question then becomes "How much energy is enough?"

I don't know if even Fusion can take on a Superman clone, which is essentially what this is.

Oh do so completely kick his ass.
Stig Hemmer at 2:48PM, July 26, 2011
I think in a confrontation between these two, the loser would be the building structure around them. Which would be bad news for Brooder.

Question: What happens if the Major Douchebag there punches Fusion while she's powered up? Would he lose his hand?
