We're talking about the cartoons that made us! This was inspired by kawaiidaigakusei's newspost from last week about Daria. Daria was a really cool cartoon from the late 90s. It was influential to her, to me as well, and I thought it would be a great idea for a Quackcast to talk about the other cartoons that were influential to us at certain points in our lives.

There were a lot that were part of forming my ideas… Early on it was action stuff like Robotech, Starblazers, Kimba, AstroBoy, Inspector Gadget, Scooby Doo, Thundercats, battle of the planets, transformers, Galaxy Rangers, Centurions etc. Later on it was Bevis and Butthead, Daria, Mission Hill, Rugrats, Babar, Dexters Lab, Roko's Modern Life, Aeon Flux, The Maxx…
It's interesting how these things can influence you. I'd love to hear about your cartoon influences!

Also, one of our DD members, Boundbun, was keen to set up an official DD Discord server because that's the way of the future! People prefer to communicate in different ways from forums and Discord is the current big thing. We should have a link going up on the site soon, but for now you cn find it in the links bellow. It's really pretty similar to the old, old style Mirc chatrooms we used to have back in the day actually. We have quite a good talk about it on our Patreon only video

This week Gunwallace has given us the theme to Sex Protectress: Creepy, gasping, magical, sexy synth. Vibrations of pleasure in this sophisticated, cool dance tune.

The Real Ghost Busters was so good!

Oh! And The Real Ghostbusters was another show I watched without fail.

For me, as a kid, I loved Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends and Muppet Babies, before moving on to Transformers, GI Joe, and then Voltron and Thundercats (to close out elementary school). Then, in middle and high school, I hit a classic Scooby Doo phase. (I used to keep a zoinks count of episodes that aired during the USA Cartoon Express.) In high school, Batman: The Animated Series and Animaniacs ruled. From there, the classic DCAU probably did more to shape my view and love of superheroes than any other medium (and I'd say that holds true to this day). Also worth mentioning around 1990/1991, a friend introduced me to Akira, Vampire Hunter D, and Fist of the North Star, and I got heavily into anime in high school and college. I watched a lot of other toons as a kid and have fond memories of a bunch of them, but I'd say these are the ones left the biggest impression on me growing up.

Robotech is the best 😁

Obligatory reference to Megas XLR.

So my favorite animes as a kid: Captain Harlock, varius giant robots (too many to list them all), Miyazaki's Sherlock Holmes, Masters of the Universe. Later: for a few years the Transformers. Later: Fist of the Noerth Star, Maison Ikkoku, Robotech, Kimagure Orange Road.
