As mentioned on the previous page, this was going to be another short. In fact it was going to be a two page skit, but as I “wrote” the dialogue in my head it quickly became obvious it would be a perfect way to start the comic proper.
a few days ago I was planning an entirely different short skit which I abandoned. It was going to begin with a shot of the Orville then go to the bridge with the crew of the anvil, except instead of captain mercer and gordon malloy there would be two of the crew of the Albion playing the roles. After a short silly space battle and a few dick jokes they would exit the holodeck and discuss how it was based on an old TV show and how well they predicted the future.

And don't forget Deep Space 9. Q has been on 3 different Star Treks.

I'd have definitely preferred the Orville skit over a visit from Q! Ack! I still haven't made it through TNG, but Q is the single worst part of the series IMO. Or is this his brother, R?

It’s rough until about mid-season 3 I’d say. DS9 is the same. Took them awhile to find their footing. Seasons 4-6 are the best of both series. For TNG “the Measure Of a Man” is the first really great show as far as I remember. But those early seasons are a tough slog!!

I haven't made it very far. Just the second season. I cancelled my Hulu subscription a while back, because I wasn't watching enough TV to justify the $60 bucks a month. I might resubscribe when the NFL season starts, but if that turns into a politicized shit show, then I may just forego 2020 altogether.

whereabouts are you in TNG? Q got better later i'd say (though an omnipotent character can possibly ruin things by their nature for some)

I hated Q when I first watched it but going through it again recently I found something to appreciate. having guest appearances isn't going to happen much if at all after Q, I have no plans to anyway. This story just felt like a perfect way to set the comic up.

I was diffing that dialogue already - about the danger of complacency and the decline of empires. Even with the title I didn’t expect Q! Loving this already!

Yeah, it would have been amusing but didn't add anything to the comic.
