the little floaty critter thing is another really old character of mine named Varmint. Also, if you go here, you'll find something interesting: Another site for CTV! Very soon there will be all kinda of extras and exclusive stuff up there so be sure to check it out ^_^
Sorry for the long wait, it makes it look like I threw a fit and left. I am sorry if I alienated anyone with that tirade of mine. Though I really doubt anyone who it apllies to read that rant anyway ^_^ But honestly, if you're gonna say something reminds you of something that's fine but when you're putting words in my mouth or telling everyone it's my influence without asking me if it was, then I get a little annoyed. Especially since I've mentioned the fact countless times in my archives. I'm sure if you thought about it it would seem exasperating to you too. I know some of you think it's nothing to get all bent out of shape over, but I'm trying to make a name for myself and not for an already established artist. I've already made needless changes in attempt to distance myself from him, and it has resulted in some art that I am very unhappy with. I actually like how Tony turned out today(well in one panel at least) but recently while trying to find a picture of Charby that I liked, I realized how crappy he has been looking for quite some time. I know I'm not ever going back to the chibi/Calvin proportions he used to have but I see changes I made on purpose that I just now realize really didn't look spiffy…a few updates ago he was looking buggy eyed? Yes, because I wanted to do something different. I saw a lot of pages where his eyes totally shrank, and they are supposed to be big! I know it didn't look too keen but it made me happier to see than the other pages in recent times. And the same goes for other characters…it's really pushing me into unfamiliar territory, having to change my style because of an unreasonable paranoia. I'm just letting you know that I'm aware that things haven't been up to par lately. I have a lot of hope for this comic to make it someday but I'm also quite depressed about the art. I'm not saying it's horrible, I'm just saying I'm not happy with it and this is why. Nobody really told me to change it, but I did anyway. And after all there is such a thing as coincidence. If I went and jumped down the throat of people who don't know me who have a similar character or style to mine, I tell you what I'd be doing a lot of jumping. I would also be flattering myself to think that maybe they saw my comic and decided to copy me. Same goes for comics or cartoons or movies that have used a joke that I used already. I guess you could say great minds think alike but then I wouldn't know what my excuse is! ^_^ Bottom line already: It wasn't so much that I was mad at being compared to a certain comic, it was me feeling like my words are ignored or doubted. No one likes to repeat themselves more than twice and I'm sure also that no one likes it when people insist even after you've told them the truth.
Anyways, sorry I upset some people (one in particular) I am sorry for the misunderstanding. It was my old art I was slamming, no one elses. I am the least to talk about bad art.
*and EDIT!* Wow, the sucky mood I was in affected this page badly, especially the way Tony looked in nearly every frame. So I fixed it, especially the bottom left which even at the time I was unhappy with. I can't believe he let me get away with drawing him that badly!
Aww, poor Tony! Nobody deserves this kind of hell, especially not Tonius! Hope things start turning up for the little guy soon. I really can't wait to see how this turns out.
Drunk Tony...this could get interesting...
I know what it's like to argue with a brick wall. You tell them time and time again, and even with all the evidence in the world they are still in denial.
Tonius just can't seem to get a break.
I think you have done a consistently great job on the artwork. Artists are always their own worse critic, but your fans love your work. This page is terrific. I love the expressions on Tonius' face in panels three and four
that monster in the punch...sooo nicely drawn....just...WOW....ive been staring at it for 20 minutes sraigt now, i think iam hooked...damn that thing is beautifull.
you surpassed yourself again amy! WOW, BIG 5
Amy, I'll say it up front right now--your art has influenced ME in ways. For YEARS I have had a difficult time shaping brows and cheeks, and your comic really helped me make a final decision in that area. But that doesn't mean I draw in the exact same way you do, or even very much of a similiar way.
We can all learn a little something from anyone, eh?
So yeah--you made some good points up there and I enjoyed reading your personal notes as much as I did the actual comic.
(And the tweaks in character-styles haven't affected my opinion of the whole shebang in anyway way--mainly because I didn't notice though.)
(Just figured I'd make a note of that, even if what I wrote there doesn't entirely make sense...)
So you get a five-all-the-way, man! (Or girl, or whatever you prefer...)
I don't think your style looks anything like JTHM either. It is very much your -own- style, so you shouldn't change that which is your -own- because some person mistakes it for something else. If you are happy with your style, it shouldn't matter even if people assume who your influences are. You know the truth, and you know you are unique, and so there is no reason to be paranoid that people won't recognise that when you haven't done anything wrong.
For the record I haven't seen anything wrong with Charby, but the important thing is for you to make your own development. I've made changes too just because I felt I "should've" and then regretted them. So just focus on what -you- -want- to do.
Most people don't read the notes in the archives. They are more interested in catching up, so don't be too harsh. But seriously, it looks nothing like Johnny! Whoever said that was BADLY mistaken. But the shirt is a little like something he wore once. Ah, well. I guess no one will read this either. Bye all!
take it with a grain of salt . sigh and go on..i keep having people toss "Jake Long" at me. its annoying to have people say you took something..or copyed something.. that offten your work pre-dates..ect...
best of luck as always...
Looks great ^_^ Amy, I am influenced by your art, I love how you do noses, eyes, and hair, and have at times, tried to emulate your style. Just thought I'd say so. ^_^;
