Please excuse the quality on this one (or don't, your choice) but I used different paper (bigger paper that is) and the markers didn't quite take to it like they did with the printer paper. Also, I went gung-ho into this without realizing I didn't have the right colors for the job (namely, Azelea's skin tone, Ervain's and Fay's hair, and all my purples were the same!) And I suppose I got an answer to yesterday's question…I have lost a lot of readers, much to my dismay. Not all of you have left me…and yeah I guess it is natural that readers come and go, but when I consider you guys friends, it kinda…well, I take it more personally, let's just say it like that. I'm not here just for attention, I'm here to share something with you, and I guess I feel like some people have walked away in the middle of a conversation. Don't get me wrong, I don't think my comic is so special that nobody could possibly grow weary of it! Heavens no! I am just…well, depressed about it is all. (let's not get into this too deep though)
I know things are going a little slow story-wise but I don't think that's the only problem and I'd like to remedy it. I can't promise a schedule for sure, but for now the Weekends are when you should expect to see CTV update, and if I have the time between the GN and Night School, then earlier in the week too. Thanks to everyone who has stayed with me though, without your support I don't think I would ever have improved like I have over the years. The best is yet to come and I hope whoever is reading now will still be reading later down the road when the big things I have planned for CTV are finally revealed. Thank you so much for your time! And honestly, I didn't want my notes yesterday to seem like a pity-party, I honestly am nervous about people losing interest in this comic, and I've been spending the last few days a stressed-out wreck over it (not to mention also being depressed by the horrible way people treat each other on the internet lately)and I've also been very frustrated with my art still. It's not that I think it's crappy, I'm just seeing a lot of stuff that is far better around here and I'm getting impatient with myself to improve. I'm also really sick of this party! But it must go on…much has not been dealt with yet, and many important things are to come, and…really, it wouldn't be so bad if this were still daily. But then the art would suck like it did back then, too. Argh I really shouldn't type when I'm sore and tired like this! Smiles and hugs everybody!
*edit* Also to answer the question of what sort of markers I used,I have Prismacolors, 3 Copics and a few off-brands that were actually pretty decent. I had to use some watercolor and colored pencil on this page too however, since I did not have some of the right colors.
NO! DON"T SEND AZ TO FAIRY JAIL! WHO WILL PLOT MYE's DEMISE? WHO WILL SHAMELESSLY LUST AFTER ZENO? who...who...WHO WILL KAVONN BEAT RUTHLESSLY OVER THE HEAD!? grins
Princess Ervain eh? no wonder she has such a bad attitude, with a name like that, HAHAHA!
few finished lol i've been missing for 4 months (not realy i left home then had to move back again) so it was great to get back on the internet and read CTV coz it's awesome and i likey it very muchly so just a comment to say you are amazing, plus i was going to put up my own comic (Called Lenore and Adrian) but low and behold my scanner cacked up on me and i'm still trying to define the characters so if you see the name anywhere ignor it no pages i'm trying to figure how to delete it.......
I like how the cimic looks when you hand-color it instead of CGing, it just has a certain charm to it. And Azelea's expressions throughout were hilarious.
Also, I'm gonna take an educated guess based solely on the font used and say that it's Kavonn who's coming to the rescue.
Hey i just joined up with drunkdcuk not that long ago, and i wanted to see this comic that everyone likes, so i started reading it!
Kudos! this is top-quality work!
I have been reading this comic for less than a month... it's not long, i know, but you haven't let me down yet (which partly showed through my reading your entire archives in a day and a half). This page isn't half as bad as you apparently think. Keep up the good work, and ill be there rooting for ya.
I can't say I've been following along since the beginning, but I've been following from the beginning since last September.
Charby is quite likely my all-time favorite web comic. And now, a sappy story to warm the cockles of your heart:
My mom was trying to buy a house for us, and we were in desperate need of a move since there was no indoor plumbing whatsoever where we were living back then, and my hopes were high. We'd found a house, gotten it inspected, had a few problems fixed, and the approval came through. And then it FELL through because the proposed payment plan was far too expensive for our limited income.
We were lucky enough to get shuffled out of the junky old place and into a friend's trailer. Naturally, I was horribly depressed, and spent a goodly amount of time in bed crying and snotting on my pillow (which I then had to wash before I could sleep on it).
A rather silly friend of mine sent me an e-mail and recommended a comic called Charby. Even though I rarely trust her judgment when she says something is funny, I took a peek.
And fell madly in love. It was enough to distract me from the megrims, and I was for once grateful that dial-up kept me from blazing through from start to finish.
There. If that doesn't give your life purpose, I don't know what will.
You know, I saw this the day it was posted, and I have really just been too lazy to log in, as I usually have to do it about 10 times before it sticks (something wrong with DD? Does it just hate me, or perhaps Firefox?). And then it really screws it up when I try to do it on another computer (there are 3 that I find myself using regularly, and I pretty much visit here on all or them). Perhaps that's more a complaint for the tech department, and not here.
Anywho, the comic is inexcusable, but in a good way. There is no need to excuse anything about it (except perhaps its lack of an update schedule, which I'll forgive that given circumstances and the importance of more profitable projects) and therefore excusing it would be logically impossible. Not that logic has reign over comics...
I always like seeing non-photoshopped pages. I understand that they aren't going to look the same, and a bit of change is actually refreshing.
I always enjoy Azelea's thoughts. I'm not a huge fan of "chibi" but I really love how it works when combined with non-chibi work. In that thought bubble, you might have wanted to put the "but if I disobey royal orders" on the right side, rather than where it is. I (as in me, not the one making the comic) think it would work better.
I think the art and color are phenomenal on this page! This is an absolutely fantastic looking (and overall fantastic too) page, and you should be nothing but proud of it. You should show it off to random people in the street so that they can appreciate it too!
My last concern is the extreme/dramatic angle in the last panel. (FYI, my genius typing skills nearly put "tramatic" which despite being misspelled, I thought was funny enough to share) It without question looks good, but I've also noticed a lot of comments about "limited angles" and such and wonder if you are doing that because you want that angle, or if it's just an attempt to appease those people. I read quite a few comics (though not many/any comic books) and none of them have a whole lot of angles. But perhaps that's because they are almost all about video games? In fact, most of the art is copied, though they're still good comics despite (or in spite of) the less than spectacular art. I think there's a lot more to appreciate in this comic due to the detail, dialog and overall story.
So keep up the great work, and be happy about it, because it is great!
My previous comment would make more sense if you put 'comic' in place of comment. I really should do a quick read over before posting the damn things! Still love Charby!
I am still kickin' around. Started my 2nd year of university so it's been kind of hectic, but I finally got caught up :D
I am so excited to see the big things revealed!!! Yay!!! :D Oh and I absolutely LOVE Princess Ervain's dress!!!!
Gracious that's a lot of comments! And it does warm my heart to see a few of the old faces again ^_^ (I won't name names!) I certainly hope it didn't seem like I was complaining about the amount of commentary, I know that I get a lot more than some other folks and it'd be crazy greedy of me to expect more that I deserves. I just like knowing who's out there is all.
DMJeanette, actually I do remember ya. If anyone commented at least once, I tend to keep note of it. ^_^ (that may be just a little scary, I know...)
Milky: you may have him then! hehe. ^_^
Kali: Actually, I didn't think that much about it, I kinda just sat down and typed whatever was on my mind. I spared talking about something else that really had me down though...saving that for another rant!
Everybody, thanks very much for your kind words! I really didn't want to look like I was looking for back-pats or anything, just being my usual insecure self is all. I'm working on the next page so hang tight! See you then!
If ya makes you feel better this is one of the three comics that I enjoyed enough to register an account on drunkduck today :p terrific character development
I really like this comic, although I don't say it often. The story is amazing and I actually can't wait to see the end. It's rare to see a really good comic with lots of demons that are more human than humans are.
The little thought bubble alternatives were amusing, and the looming perspective shot in the last panel is impressive.
Muwahahahahaaaa!!!
Oh, right, lurking.
Ugh! Comments get cut off! bah.
But the bit that was missed was:
Usually the reason I comment is if I see some way the page can be improved, and I just . . . never see anything wrong with yours.
It's really quite sweet how much you care about what your readers think, but probably not good for you. ^^;;;
I for sure plan on sticking around. This is one of the comics I always look forward to reading, no matter when the updates are.
And your art is AMAZING whether it's with markers, pencils, or Photoshop!
Lastly I agree with XXX_NightWing . . . I feel like I just don't have anything to add >.

This comic has taught me not to pick on people who look weak. Actually, I don't think I needed that lesson, or so I hope!
