Please excuse the quality on this one (or don't, your choice) but I used different paper (bigger paper that is) and the markers didn't quite take to it like they did with the printer paper. Also, I went gung-ho into this without realizing I didn't have the right colors for the job (namely, Azelea's skin tone, Ervain's and Fay's hair, and all my purples were the same!) And I suppose I got an answer to yesterday's question…I have lost a lot of readers, much to my dismay. Not all of you have left me…and yeah I guess it is natural that readers come and go, but when I consider you guys friends, it kinda…well, I take it more personally, let's just say it like that. I'm not here just for attention, I'm here to share something with you, and I guess I feel like some people have walked away in the middle of a conversation. Don't get me wrong, I don't think my comic is so special that nobody could possibly grow weary of it! Heavens no! I am just…well, depressed about it is all. (let's not get into this too deep though)
I know things are going a little slow story-wise but I don't think that's the only problem and I'd like to remedy it. I can't promise a schedule for sure, but for now the Weekends are when you should expect to see CTV update, and if I have the time between the GN and Night School, then earlier in the week too. Thanks to everyone who has stayed with me though, without your support I don't think I would ever have improved like I have over the years. The best is yet to come and I hope whoever is reading now will still be reading later down the road when the big things I have planned for CTV are finally revealed. Thank you so much for your time! And honestly, I didn't want my notes yesterday to seem like a pity-party, I honestly am nervous about people losing interest in this comic, and I've been spending the last few days a stressed-out wreck over it (not to mention also being depressed by the horrible way people treat each other on the internet lately)and I've also been very frustrated with my art still. It's not that I think it's crappy, I'm just seeing a lot of stuff that is far better around here and I'm getting impatient with myself to improve. I'm also really sick of this party! But it must go on…much has not been dealt with yet, and many important things are to come, and…really, it wouldn't be so bad if this were still daily. But then the art would suck like it did back then, too. Argh I really shouldn't type when I'm sore and tired like this! Smiles and hugs everybody!
*edit* Also to answer the question of what sort of markers I used,I have Prismacolors, 3 Copics and a few off-brands that were actually pretty decent. I had to use some watercolor and colored pencil on this page too however, since I did not have some of the right colors.
I'm rather timid, and I don't think I've ever posted on DD before. However, I do need to say that this is quite possibly the best webcomic I've ever read, and, like MelTorefas, would still be reading it even if the story remained at the party for the next five years. This is the only comic that has ever made me skip consecutive classes to read, and I've read through the entire archives twice. Don't worry, not everyone has left.
Ok, this is the first time I have ever posted here (or anywhere on DrunkDuck), but I just wanted to say I have been reading for almost a year now, and, well... you're comic baffles me. There's all KINDS of stuff in it that would normally turn me off from a comic right away; graphic violence, the fact that the 'heroes' eat people (some of whom are even somewhat innocent), the extreme morbidity of it all... Add that on to the fact that it doesn't update all that often and, well, I would have thought I'd have stopped reading ages ago.
And yet, here I am. I can't explain it, really, except to say that your comic is FASCINATING. Oh, and your artwork and coloring are absolutely phenomenal, some of the best I have ever seen. So I guess the point of all this is, you're not boring by any stretch of the imagination, and frankly your worst work is better than 75% of whats out there. So yeah, you could keep the story at this party for the next five years and I, for one, would still be here.
And now that I have gotten all that out, I can promise I probably won't ever write a comment this long again. :P
Yay, an update!
I don't know why you're complaining about quality. I realize the colours arn't as vibrant as the last page, but it still looks beautiful! The softness of it adds a really nice touch!
Ha! That's exactly the way I feel about my work every day... I wonder why there's less people, or why older readers don't comment, and I really look forward to all those great people commenting because I appreciate their words and the encouragement it gives me: making doing it worthwhile and inspiring me to do the next page and keep going with the story.. Then I look back at certain aspects of my work like a lot of the scenes from dull angles, really stiff, crappy figures and hate my work and feel like a fraud and an imposter that people would even like my stuff at all to start with. It's horrible but I'm sure it happens to us all.
Great page anyway. You skill with coloured pens amazes me and that's a good angle in the last panel.
Ah, you know, there were a number of cool comics I loved to follow when I first came to DD, Charby was one ^^ If I could only emulate half the complexity of story, character development or even cool consistent character designs I'd be happy.
I don't think the party has gone on too long. There are so many key characters present and the focus shifts from storylines often enough to be entertaining and interesting.
Anyone who has drifted away from CTV are going to miss out on a big payoff. The climax of this party sequence is going to be awesome, I can feel it.
I am extremely impressed with the artwork on this page. It is a masterful example of the use of a limited color pallet. Remember. Color is dynamic, and is always affected by the environment it is in. The way you have used color on this page demonstrates you understand this completely. Keep up the spectacular work you are doing.
Good point Crazy Asian Queen. I haven't been reading all too long I'm afraid... Only for the past month, but I love your comic to pieces and if it were ever to disappear I'd be very sad. The thing is though that it is not just the comic. It is also you Amy! You put so much time and effort into it that anyone who likes it can't help but like you too!
I don't know what's up with readers leaving but they obviously have some issues. Charby the Vampirate is one of the most well written things I have ever read!
Eh, I've stayed every since I found this comic. It's been on my fav's list and I just read it whenever that little star pops up next to it. I know I don't always comment (make that: I know I NEVER comment) but doesn't mean you don't have people admireing your works. You're a really good artist with an interesting idea. I admit Mye gets on my nerves every now and then, but I just LOVE charby. He's great ^^
anywho, Don't worry, The only way you'll lose me as a fan is if you either seriously screw up or I quit drunkduck all together, neither of which I see happening any time soon. If people can't wait for a decent update then who needs them, right? Better have quility goods every other week than junk every other day, no?

Amelius: How long do you spend thinking of what to write in the authors comments?
Kali at 6:03AM, Sept. 9, 2007
It's refreshing to see it in ink for once. I'm not saying photoshop is a bad thing it's just that it gives it a little varity.
