Due East - Book 4 Page 21
dueeast on Sept. 30, 2008
October 7, 2008: I have page 22 penciled, inked and scanned. I just need to finish coloring and letter it. Hopefully, I can have it by the end of this week!
Original blurb: My wife and I decided it was best to go ahead and wind things down for Book 4. This is the second-to-last page of the issue. As you might have guessed, Brielle went to Carolyn's church, heard the Gospel preached and felt the need to make her decision to ask Jesus to forgive her sins, enter her heart and change her from within.
We didn't feel the need to show this because we already showed Carolyn's conversion earlier in the book. Now we will see what this means to Brielle as she takes on things from a new perspective.
Artistically, I was very pleased with this page. It captured the feel we wanted to portray and the lighting adds a nice dimension to it.
Oh, and that is a cameo from Cassie in Times Like This. She just seemed to fit in with the Austin scene somehow… :)
In other news, I don't think I can go into all the challenges my family and I have faced concerning my health over the last month. I have been in and out of the E.R. and even the hospital a few times. We are learning more and a gameplan is in the works. I'll let you know more when I know more. I do expect to finish Book 4 soon!
I loved all the comments from the last page. People really felt Brielle's pain and relief when she felt relief. That tells me we did our jobs as writers and artist. It is very rewarding.

Very touching, heart-warming little page. Keeping fingers and everything crossed for you on the health front. Take care.

Oh and also... feel free to use Cassie in Off Hours if you desire. :)

Sweet! Yeah, Cassie needs to visit Austin more often. Coincidentally, this week she's dealing with something FROM Austin. ;)

My thoughts are with you, get better! And this is a lovely page, very optimistic and open hearted. Just the right thing to end a great arc with! Well done :)

Good job on the shading in this page - in the past, your shading has gotten too dark at times. But I think this is a good medium for it. Good conversation on this page.

Hey... HEY... get better now. Do it! =p Really I hope this is also the winding down of your medical trips. And this page looks great. Your coloring really looks improved for some reason. I think I'll wait till I'm 50 for the next restart myself ;-)

Nice linework. There was something about this update that struck me, and now I finally know what it is. The colours are far brighter than normal, like they're being bathed in the kind of light you get at sunrise or sunset. It's actually quite symbolic of their conversation. Nice job!

It's Cassie! That *is* an awesome cameo - and SO Austin ^.^ And oh man, now I want a smoothie. I used to have mini-Renaissances when I was growing up, but mine were never that profound.

We can all use a few restarts in life. Restarting at 16? Does she think that's early or late for it? I can't tell. Teenagers usually think they are so grown up already... Little do they know they'll have a half dozen other life phases -- which feel a lot like "starting over..." (I'm trying to do it myself at much older than 16. ;-) ) I'm sending best wishes your way regarding health.
