Frogman on Feb. 16, 2008
Here we have the introduction to Julie and Dean Miller, Steve's mum and little brother.
I wanted Julie to just look like a normal mum, not one of those unrealistic milfs you see in comics all the time. Damn you Sue Richards! I'm hoping she looks normal. Anyway, I tried to make her look around 50ish with some extra creases on her face and strands of grey hair.
Dean is like one of those little kids - you know the ones - that seem to be on crack or something. He's a bit hyper and looks up to his brother. He's a bit coddled by his mum and likes video games obviously.
About the backgrounds: Essentially that's my house. And my car. (OMG Frog-mobile!) I'm not good at making interesting original backgrounds, so I'm attempting to adapt real places for Frogman. You'll notice a little ‘P-plate’ on the windscreen of the car. That's the law here in Australia, you need to display P-plates for three years after you've passed your driving test. There's also some ‘happy 18th birthday’ cards hanging on the lounge room wall, which are hard to see because speech bubbles are covering them… Those are Steve's. His birthday is July 29th, if you are interested. I should probably tell you that this is set around August of 2007. Steve is wearing a jacket because that is the time of winter in this hemisphere.
Next week's page is already drawn and inked, it just needs some colour.
Also, I was looking through a folder I have of all my old Frogman stuff the other day, and realised that this is something like the 5th attempt at telling his origin.
Double also… Yay! Over 1000 views already. Thanks guys. :)

At first I was wondering why Steve was trying to drive on the wrong side of the car, then I realized that they're in Australia. D'oh! XD

Oh man, I can't believe I wrote 'know' instead of 'no' in that last comment. *Slaps forehead*

Spiff - I totally do the same thing too. It's weird sometimes when I just laugh to myself and know one knows what I'm laughing at but me, since they can't hear my narration.

Dangerface - Thanks man. When doing backgrounds, photo reference is my best friend. Locoma - Just remember, Dean is the one that looks like he's on crack. ;) I'm glad you think Julie looks around 45 and non-stereotypical. I was concerned for a bit that I didn't pull it off.

i like how hes just thinkin to himself in his car. actually I find I narrate my life in my head sometimes too...

hehe at first I got kinda confused 'cause the two brothers look alike. The mom is great, I think it looks like about 45 to me, and she doesn't look like those stereotyped moms from comic books. Backgrounds do look amazing, and I like how you're doing the expressions more subtle than in Ultimate X

The backgrounds feel very real. Good stuff.

Bleh, it cut off part of my message for some reason... Atom Apple - try urban dictionary for anything you're not sure of. What exactly didn't you understand?

Bastet - It's the eyes, isn't it? SympleSymon - Thanks. I wanted Lisa to be tougher than your usual comic book girlfriend, hence the mad karate skillz. Because needing the hero to rescue them every 5 minutes is laaaaaaame. Atom Apple - http://www.urbandictionary.com/

Looking great, and what a great place to meet a loved one.
