ed.: I replaced this page with a completely reworked version, due to several developments in this comic to which it just wouldn't fit any more… Ok, to be honest, I just replaced the old one because it was shite. It's still far too much text for most comic reader's tastes, but all of it will help to fully understand what's going on. Gundula is a character that I developed over years and years, writing several hundred pages (half of which are utter rubbish, but it's still a lot). That should teach me to feature a novel character in a comic.
Oh, it certainly depends. It's some of the description that bothers me as well, though. There are still a few old half-baked ideas in it that I refined in the years to come or stealthily disposed of. 😉
It is a lot of text but I'm always in awe of how deeply some writers 'live' within their characters so it always makes fascinating reading and your affection for her really shows through here.
Oh dear. This is one of the things I'd never do again if I were to start the comic now, but back in the day I was eager to post the stuff I'd done and wanted to get on with it no matter what. I'd always intended this exposition page to be a placeholder until I'd get around to somehow squeeze this information into the comic proper. Well, it's still there, because nothing lasts as long as a stopgap solution. ;) Also, I feel that being able to watch creators develop is part of the beauty of webcomics, so I stand by my past mistakes. I just hope that it doesn't put off anyone before it gets to the good bits, especially since the comic is basically an episodical sitcom and can be read in any random order.
In retrospect I'd say she's trying to please her great-grandson there (who wasn't yet part of the comic's cast at this point), but she's a fun-loving old girl indeed. You see, if you're hundreds of years old you either develop an awesome sense of fun or become very miserable, but nothing in between - and moping just wouldn't be her thing.

I don't mind descriptive "intros" to a comic. I never understood the stigma... either way, intriguing!
