Alright. This is my first regular update. I think I will post a page each Thursday. Just don't tie me down on this, as I still have to coordinate all my timetables, especially that of the university. I'm also thinking about updating this comic twice a week, though I'm not yet sure if I could keep up this pace.
This page marks one of my first (and last) tries to use my hopelessly outdated ersatz-photoshop designed for Windows 3.1 to zap up a drawing. The background is a modified photo of Bremen's centre I took while standing in the middle of the real tram line. If you look very hard you might even discern part of the old city hall and the famous Roland statue - this is to say: I can, because I know exactly what I've got to look for. Bremen's trams actually stopped looking like that about fifteen years ago as they were mostly replaced by modern low-floor ones and although they are doubtless a lot better in many ways I still think the old ones look better.
Thanks. It was an experiment and I remember it was a pain in the behind to get it right. It involved standing in the middle of that busy road in the city centre right between the tram rails where a real one could come any time, holding my camera in the air to get the angle right. I afterwards decided that drawing my backgrounds is well worth the effort - but never say never.
Reading your reply it strikes me as amusing how much we artists suffer at our own hands. I feel exactly the same as you do looking back at my older stuff but I resist the urge that some comic makers give way to, in going back to redo old pages. I'm glad you've left yours alone too as I think it's great to see how a persons art develops and I see nothing clumsy about this page at all. The old granny exudes so much character charm, I can understand why she is popular too!
That's a really beautiful piece of art in so many ways as well as being a really funny page. I love the old lady with the crumbled mouth, I feel she speaks for them all!
Thanks a lot - thanks a lot for all those kind comments! This was one of my first clumsy attempts at including some kind of background art. These first thirty pages or so were actually a year old when I posted them back then. Looking at it now after all these years I'm cringing at one or two things, like most of the hands, yet I can't help but hold this old thing dear as a stepping stone on my long way since, if I may say so myself. The old granny was just an incidental character I had improvised on a whim, but I eventually ended up bringing her back again and again at the request of a couple of readers. :)

Love the way you used the actual city outside the windows.

"The Last of the Mohawks", in a way, considering what a common sight they once were.
