101 Tigers

Hi, everyone!
Yep, it's a full colour page. What you see here is an old favourite among typical cat games. My cat loved to play it, even if she didn't jump people. May she rest in peace! Also, you're witness to a very typical Northern German conversation mode, jocularly called in Platt “Alleen in Sellschapp” - “Alone in company”. We're kind of notorious for it. It's a stereotype of course, but some times we really love to just enjoy each other's company in silence without any unnecessary prattling about the weather or whatever - it just isn't necessary. And if anyone feels like saying something, it's often teasing - but friendly teasing not meant to hurt.
When tigers play, they do play a bit rough. However, you can always tell if they play - a tiger attacking for real wouldn't say “Grooff!” or anything, it'll just go straight to business.
I know for a fact - from playing with a young lion a couple of years ago - that big cats always have absolute control over how hard they bite. Somehow they know exactly how far they can go. This said, accidents may of course still happen just as often as they do in every game gone wild, but they're accidents. They know the difference very well. And this is just what Tiger does - he gives Christian quite a start, but there won't even be a bruise.
Thanks for reading, and have a nice weekend!
Thanks for commenting, too. I'm dying to try out this new “reply” button, you know. :)

I agree, your 'hand drawn vibes' certainly give your art a wonderful distinct personality!

Tiger should be called Pixel after this :)

Heh! This looks just like my kind of book! :D To think I missed out on this... Thanks again, then. Now I know where to look next time I run out of reading material (which I do quite often). :)

I'm sorry to say I've got no idea wha you're referring to, but thanks all the same! Glad you like it! :)

Wonderful page. Your artwork and story telling is top notch, and I love the glimpses into German culture you share in your comments.

Gorgeous work! And I love Tiger's little gag!! Just a wonderful all around page! So full! Did you draw every single section, or did you cut/paste any of it (some of the sections look similar, but not totally...) And were they 'playing footsies' under the table...? hehe

Hey, I LOVE this "reply"-button! xD

I actually drew every single section of this, with the help of a lightbox I built myself a couple of years ago - just a wooden box with an acrylic glass cover, that contains a cheap bathroom lamp and is lined with aluminium foil on the inside. I don't need it very often, but when I do it has proved to be a most useful, if not indispensable device. It's not half as tedious as it sounds, either; I'm usually much faster doing it this way instead of spending hours of cursing my computer and resisting the urge to throw it out of the window when trying the cut-and-paste method. Plus, that way it keeps up the homemade hand-drawn vibes that I think define my style somewhat, and it enables me to put in an endless amount of tiny variations on a spontaneous whim if I feel like it. So, yes, all of this page exists on paper just the way you see it. The only thing I use the computer for is doing it in two languages, really. --- As for the footsies, I'll leave that to your interpretation. :D
