It seems that Thanantria has not yet realized that "the mortal" was Ronson's wife. If Thanantria had for once acted more human towards Ronson instead of being a formal Death, he might probably have accepted Emily's departure more or less.
I think Claremont will stop Ronson and try to calm him down.
A lot more people worship death than you'd think, Rohano. Even if they're just asking for mommy to live another day, thats worship. Killers, doctors, parents and soldiers all include worship of Thanatos
I don't know for sure that Claremont is going to "calm Ronson down." As a sapient supergenius, I would assume he would question the natural order on a regular basis. And maybe take a philosophy textbook to Nan's face.
Rohano - You forget that Claclaremont isn't all knowing - after all he didn't know about the rules of the after-life until Thantos told him and he didn't recognize another "knowledge" god when he encountered him.
Nan has the upper hand because this is her realm dealing with something that falls directly under her power of control and she has actually taken time to learn how it works - unlike Ronson who just wings it.
No, Ronson will try to push his way pass Nan and won't care if he destroys the heavens, Arr-Kelaan and hell to do it. Claremont will stop him not with a show of force, but by using what he already know about Ronson grief to cut through it.
Well, we know because this is still a flashback that Ronson won't be killed, but he could get a major butt-whumping. Claremont seems to be trying to calm him down, so I'm looking forward to seeing how this plays out.

She doesn't have the pink rubber mallet that gave Satan a "nasty cut".
Not that it would save Ronson's couple, of course.
-"You're a bit impatient, sijo."
Eh? I'm just reacting to this week's GoAK, I'm not saying things will never be resolved well. If I thought that I wouldn't follow the strip.
Claremont can kick divine booty just fine, and he's not even a god of death. He might be one of the only Traveler passengers with an afterlife (pre-white light) built for his worshippers but he's still just a god of knowledge and science.
I assume that Nan, with Thanatos' guidance, can likely kick divine booty as well.
Claremont may very well side with Ronson here (in the belief that if Ronson wants to go to never-never land and be with Emily, then he should be able to; Claremont wants them both to be happy), but Nan has Thanatos. Two on two... A knowledge god and the head of the pantheon versus two somewhat minor death gods (Thanatos is retired and Nan is new - she can't have many worshippers). We already know that Ronson can do things a lot of other gods can't, despite his relative lack of worshippers. Claremont has got to be heavily built under that jacket, because he's got a ton of worshippers.
If the battle were decided by worshippers, Claremont and Ronson win. If the battle were decided by unique powers, I think Claremont and Ronson win. If it comes down to who can kill gods and who can't, Thanatos and Nan have the advantage of initiative, assuming Thanatos has given Nan information on Ronson's and Claremont's weaknesses. Claremont can easily turn to Ronson and say "Thanatos' weakness is X and Nan's weakness is Y," but those precious seconds might be all it takes. Then again, it might not be so easy to take down the head of the pantheon. And Claremont might have defenses prepared, knowing that Thanatos can take him down.
We know that it's possible to defeat gods because of Claremont's story a few books ago, when he encountered the god of pestilence. Atleast that's how I remember it.
Well, that answers how the author convinces Ronson (and us) that Emily going to the great beyond was for the best: he doesn't. To be fair, such matters may be a little too deep for a comic strip. But in that case, they should never be brought up.

I predicted this. Ronson is going to wipe the floor with Thanantra. He won't get Emily back but at least he can wipe that smug look off her face.
