Okay, okay, a bunch of you guys figured it out. I imagine Sijo will be especially disappointed.
…but did you know Sephin was the narrator, eh? EH?
Anyway, Friday will be the beginning of either “The Point of Some Return” or “This Guy Walks Into a Tavern…” … I haven't decided yet. The first is “Consequences” related, but the second is in b&w, and I can't decide if I should end this run with black and white or color pages.
There will, however, be a never seen page in “This Guy Walks Into a Tavern…” that was previously only available in the PDF version of the story. It was a second ending because I had thought that I had an odd number of pages, but after making it realized I didn't.
The Book sales are going well now. I guess all I had to do was whine a bit. :)
As of the printing of this text, there are only 9 seven-book sets left. Not bad considering we started with 25!
I was thinking when I first saw these two fight early on in the comic "I bet they end up hooking up"
Men and women who hate each other in stories always end up gettin' it on sooner or later!
Hints that time had passed? Like:
"Once a month, they meet in a remote area of Arr-Kelaan..."
"For that matter, Krushcor has punched through more than a few walls due to Beyurn's work opposing him."
Not to mention THIS TIMELINE that was posted about a week before, showing at least a few years had passed.
But whatever. ;)
Let me reiterate one last time, just in case: I have no problem with Krush and Bey being lovers- they wouldn't be the first antagonists to get the hots for each other. And it's true, if this story is set long after the last time I saw them fight, then yeah, there's room for that to happen believably. But I'd liked to have seen some hints of that, instead of this being a fight where absolutely any of the possible endings could have taken place. But again, it was probably too short for that.
I don't see anything at all wrong with a love-hate type relationship. It sure wouldn't be the first. Just look at the relationship that Buffy and Spike had...very similiar relationship. I saw this coming, but still enjoyed seeing it happen. I am curious on exactly WHAT the prize was, like Sijo stated, is it who gets on top? Think it would have been funny if it was something like who had to cook and serve breakfast in bed the next morning (without cheating using god powers).
Actually, since they're both gods, their kids would also be gods. They'd probably end up as lesser aspects of war, like a god of berserkers, a god of spycraft, a god of weapons technology, etc.
It seems you are thinking in linear time, Sijo.
When it comes to Chucks stories, you can't do that. They aren't chronological. They hardly ever are. Think Quentin Terantino. ;)
And next time we see them, they'll be fighting like an old couple. I really don't see why they couldn't both love and hate each other. Not that I saw this coming, I just don't have any problems accepting it.
I guess my problem was that this seems to have come out of nowhere. From what we'd seen before, Krushcor and Beyor hated each other's guts. Now it turns out that they have secret trysts... and that they fight first- with rules made on the spot? Sorry, it doesn't seem to click. Perhaps if there had been more room for character development- you've already proven how well you can explain even bizarre things in the long run. But here there was only room for the fight and the "surprise" ending. Oh well, maybe the later consequences (if any) will have more room to play.
But hey, thanks for the *free* entertainment, anyway. ;)
It's not the easy answer. It's what makes sense in my head. I've stated this before, but I'm trying to create a mythology, and mythologies have patterns that are used over and over.
The Krushcor/Beyurn relationship is, of course, related to their respective domains. War and battle are connected, and a war needs grunts and generals to work, even if they approach things differently. It's a precarious but deep relationship.
And honestly, this story had only three narrow paths that it could follow - status quo, increased hatred, increased fondness. The one that makes sense is for fondness, of course, because now we have split loyalties among the pantheon.
Well, yeah, I'm disappointed. :P
Not so much for the story... it was nice. Just that- I don't see the point of it. What exactly were they fighting over? Who gets to go on on top? :D
Next time, though, don't go for the easy answer. It gets old quick.
I didn't work out that Sephin was the narrator, but the God of War and the God of Battles hooking up was obvious to me, simply because their power focuses are so close.
...of course, seeing what their focus actually IS, that meant that their fighting only increased the chances of a relationship forming. I just didn't expect them to fight before ...a nights rest.

I wonder what would have happened if Krushcor had won.

That was hilarious, well done. Especially with the narration going, "hey, what the heck?"
Artificer Urza at 6:13AM, Sept. 22, 2009
Ehhh... I think they just love to fight and they especially love to fight each other.
Ronson at 4:01AM, Sept. 22, 2009
I believe the fight is essentially foreplay.
