Religious people always have the option to react by saying "my God is testing me!" So even being able to meet that God face to face doesn't really mean anything, if you're convinced you're 100% right and anything your God says that goes against that is just a trick he's playing on you to make sure you're dedicated enough. You can insult him and then be convinced he's proud of you for not falling in his obvious trick. It's not logical, but that's still the way people tend to react (well, in our universe they're not faced with their God, but with reason or reality, and can choose to ignore them completely. There are plenty of examples of that).

Sadly, this is not an uncommon concept... A belief structure often has little to do with it's origins, nor with the intent of it's founder, or, in this case, it's object. When presented with clear proof that the current structure is inconsistent with the intent of the founder, you would think any sane person would accept the new information and move on... Yet the history of religion says they don't.. In fact, they tend to cling even more strongly to their belief. Psychologically, it can be argued that they have so much invested in their belief structure at that point that to accept it being wrong would be equivalent to an intellectual suicide. A. E. van Vogt actually used this as a concluding point in 'The Players of Null-A'; sadly, I doubt this prelate is quite so devout as van Vogt's villain, and, as a result, will not fall quite so far. Then again, his god *is* actually present, so Karma may move rather exceedingly quickly in this case.

Either this guy is another god- Bikk, most likely- or he's C-R-A-Z-Y. You don't insult a god to his face. If he were smarter he'd just pretend to agree and then kept the whole incident secret (of course, the acolyte would have to be dealt with...)

Bet the Priest was in it just for the money. Be a solid charismatic leader pretending to preach gospel and you can be just as successful as the real deal in garnering followers and donations, only you get to keep the money. And in Ronson's name too, Bikk would be proud...or at least laughing.

Now, that's the Ronson religion. Also, that elder guy in the robes is pissed and he is going to make Ronson mad. I don't get is how come that Ronson's aura of apathy hasn't affected him yet?
