Lucky Break [3 of 13]

Beyurn stood looking at the map spread before her. Scattered here and there were metal triangles representing her armies. To the untrained eye, it might seem that there were less armies there than the Goddess of War would deserve. But ever since her initial setback, Beyurn had learned to think more strategically and to not rush things. The world would come to order in due time.

The door to her study flew open and Sharra walked in. “Hello Beyurn! Mike said you would be here.”

Beyurn grimaced. She didn't dislike the goddess of luck, but oftentimes Beyurn found herself having to overplan her battle strategies to compensate for luck's involvement in war.

Sharra threw a small round object at Beyurn, “Mike said you would know what this is.”

Beyurn caught it easily. It was a coconut. Scrawled on it was a message for help. She tossed the coconut back to Sharra. “Shrub” she said simply.

“Yes,” replied Sharra.

Beyurn arched her left eyebrow,“…and?”

“We want him.”

Beyurn smiled. That would be a perfect punishment for her errant general. “Take him.”

“Where is he?”

Beyurn strode across the floor to the balcony overlooking the wooded park near the rear of “The Traveller.” She pulled an arrow out of the quiver strapped across her back and set it purposefully in the bow that was now in her right hand.

She drew the arrow back carefully and released it. Soon it flew out beyond the ship and seemed to be gaining speed as it disappeared into the horizon…

“Follow the arrow,” she told Sharra, and then turned back to her work.
