In Greece, grandparents are respected as elders- if they don't forfeit their position by behavior or by weakness.
There are many anecdotes about tough fighters that just stood at attention for their mothers or grandmothers, even before their entire regiment- or WITH their entire regiment.
Obviously Basil's grandma hasn't forfeited her position. ;)

Oh, and one more thing: It's interesting to compare your pacing/character interactions across media - comic books and prose. While your comics clearly show your love for prose as well, they're not just "illustrated prose", as this page demonstrates. Your work is pretty instructional either way :-)

Ain't just Greece. A good grandparent is like a good Top sergeant. Though a lot of top sergeants have been known to defer to grandparents.
