Out of the seven which ones would you most likely log on? I want to know when to update. Because I'm desperate for readers. I'm guessing Sunday but I have no clue.

Honestly I check pretty much every day, usually in the afternoon. I'm usually least likely to check on Sunday, because I nearly always end up working all day. =p

i check the site probably 2 times a day. once when the time frame changes and all the comics that were lined up begin their new day (which for me is 10pm) and once in the late morning to read the comments of the new page i updated on my comic.

I don't see how updating on certain days only will help you get further readers. And updating on certain hours wouldn't work very well because of the time differences. Just update as often as you can when at the same time holding the same quality in the comic. A few comics I've seen updating often have become lousy becuase of the short timespan to make them.

I want people to know when an updates coming, not just random days. Of course, at this low stage, it doesn't even matter.

Well, I understand wanting people to know when you're going to update, but the fun part about DD is that when someone likes and watches your comic, they get notified on their little sidebar (or the notifier, if they've downloaded it) when you've updated. So in my opinion, in the beginning it's best to update at a bunch of different days and times to reach the broadest potential audience possible. :) After that, you can settle down into whatever day(s) you're comfortable updating on.

Other factors may also contribute such as:
1) likeability of the comic - Not to be confused with “quality”. You can be the best writer out there who graduated magna cum laude from a reputable school… for sure you can write and develop the best story. But hey. I've seen comics here with hardly any plot that rake in lots of readers. Could be about your art style, the subject matter your comic talks about, or simply somebody has a crush on one of your characters.
2) Frequency of update - who would wanna keep coming back to a site that barely updates?
3) Quality - is the art good? is the story good? Is it easy to understand?
4) Advertising skills - Youve seen it before… that there are comics out there that are heavily overrated. I'm like… ooh it must be good. But when I check it, I feel like I'd never get back that 10 minutes of my life reading the few pages of it that just… SUUUCCCCKKK!!! lol It helps to comment on other people's comics or if you got spare change, advertise in onlinecomics.net or choicecomics.net. I dunno if drunkduck has an option for you to advertise your banner…
5) Time spent online - I know some of you here who are frequent on this forum and just go around and read comics and comment then send fanart do link exchanges, etc… you know the drill. Used to do that alot when I had the element of spare time. I got more hits even tho I had crappier skills on every aspect of webcomicing.
Hope this helps too.

due to my severe internet addiction, I am on this website every day.
here are some of my personal methods of shameless self-promotion:
*I'm on a poetry community website, and put links to my comic up there, and some of my poet-friends read my comic now…
*I like imdb.com and post in some of the forums, and my url is in my signature. I have some people who've contacted me from imdb…
*I printed out a copy and gave it to my mom, and for some reason she brought it to school (she's a high school spanish teacher) and let kids read it in study hall, so some high schoolers back home read my comic
*I have family members read it, and friends and stuff because I'm that lame
*I have links to it on Facebook
*this is the best way to really, really boost pageviews: I got some advertising on Buzzcomix! It's only $1 per slot, and well, one time I got 2,670 pageviews in one day! whoaaa!! And I must have an ad up today because I've already had 1,460 pageviews today, and that's not normal!
so there's my advice.
also, you should shamelessly self-promote like this:
everyone, please, please, please read my comic, I work so hard on it… come on… I'll buy you stuff!

I'm on everyday, but during the week I skim the comics, and weekends I've been getting on the forums some…
kyupol > Thanks for the stats, very useful
I've noticed that people seem to “pick up” more when i update mid week, in the afternoon. But I think that there are so many variable factors at work that it'd be pretty hard to pin down a cover all day for all comics. Afternoons seem to be really active though.
I say pick a day, run with it for a few weeks. If you don't seem to be getting the response you want, switch it up, ha ha ha ha but basically I just told you to guess. More great advice from Carly….
