The amazing thing for me is that this guy has $100 million to waste on a POS project like that.
It really is a POS project. Completely uninspired.

I think it looks kinda cool, but also a little gaudy… I'd buy it, but not for 100 million. Not even 1 million.

Wait, he was trying to make it NOT look like bling? Because the first thing that popped into my head was some rapper or gangsta popping a chain through it and wearing it around his neck.“Yo yo, check it! I don't got no diamond teeth, foo', I got a diamond SKULL!”

Seriously, what the hell? This guy thinks that's art? A friend of mine also made a skull, but at least he painted it in intricate Tibetan designs. …Okay, it's not HUGE art, but it's more than making a giant piece of bling.

Disgruntledrm
I was wondering if this would be mentioned on the forum. I wouldn't. Frankly, it's tacky. And the artist himself is over-glorified, I mean god…just about everything he does is saying how beautiful and amazing death is. If it's so great, why doesn't he just kill himself?

Watch that be his last masterpiece… :(

I think we should cut off Hirst's head, replace it with the tacky diamond skull, put him on a motorbike and set him on fire.

That'd make a more interesting statement. Plus, it'd make a better Ghost Rider than Nick Cage…

Awesome. Your a genius OO.

I kinda like it - it's making a quite profound statement about wealth, death and the value of life. Thank of the actual diamond trade itself - how exploitative it is and how people risk their lives to get these things so rich oiks can have them sparkling on their fingers. People cash in on those silly little rocks while others die…

I think the that thought is probably what Hirst wanted to invoke - a deep disgust at such a display of opulence for no real reason. The thought that such money could go towards something much more worthy than a piece of art. Death all done up like a piece of jewellery~ sparkling and laughing yet totally gaudy and tasteless… and worth millions of dollars~ is death like that? Or is it life that should be seen as so precious?

It's brave, I like it. It makes me sick to the bone and makes me think of all sorts of difficult questions… so I like it.

Heh, I find it not only ugly and unnecessary, but amazingly obvious. He could just as well have written out the intended statement in letters 300 meters tall using $100 bills and the dead bodies of people that he's personally killed. It's just that obvious.

The man is a cretin.

I dunno… I'm more into “art for art's sake” rather than “art with a deep social meaning”, you know? I feel like modern artists completely ignore aesthetics, or they just say like, “wow garbage bags are just sooo beautiful!!” when it just isn't true. For me, before I scrolled down enough to see it was a skull, I thought, “hmm beowulf.”
ok to be honest the only type of art I really and truly like is 2D art. I hate sculpture, and crap like this does absolutely nothing for me.
so, if I had 100 million dollars, I'd buy a little cottage in the middle of a forest, and draw and paint all day long and never worry about working. I would never buy an ugly diamond-skull.
