What's a song that means a lot to you right now?

Tell us why and please comment on the person's choice before you before posting your own <3

————————-

For me currently it's Can't Wait To See You by the Eurogliders
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VuUU0K5xT6Q

Why:
I just came across it again now, but this was one of the theme songs going through my head constantly when we were FINALLY going to get Drunk Duck back after the big deletion disaster when the site was dead for several months and we were working SO F*****G hard to get it back.
When we were close, this is is one of songs I would play to myself and now I will always associate it with DD XXXXX

It helps that the band comes from my own isolated home city of Perth, Australia, and the filmclip to the song is so joyous and fun.

It's crazy that it was posted 13 years ago and has 1300 views. It certainly deserves more than that. It's got a chill vibe and reminds me of THIS SONG.

That's VERY 1990s, early 90s it looks like. I've never heard it before. I hated that style of video then but the song is catchy.

I'm listening to the Dity Bops, Get up and Go. https://youtu.be/fo9cNMB38k4?si=KhH7VjMTOgCnI85R
They're an arty little retro folk group from the early 2000s. Always very cute. The song reminds me of being in a rush haha

You have to comment on the previous sing :/

I do it that way so it encourages conversation.

Never heard of the Dity Bops before. Sounds like an updated name for MMMBop in the year 2025.

The Lion King - King of Pride Rock (Score)

Why:

I tried to sing the second half of the song while in line at a movie theatre. The score is played after Simba defeats Scar and is ascending Pride Rock in the rain. Watch a LIVE performance of the Lion King Musical and prepare to be inspired.

Pride Rock is the rock formation where Rafiki holds baby Simba at the beginning of The Lion King.

Chicago - Old Days

This track stood out while listening through the LP for the first time.

It's kinda confusing because it's what you call a group of lions but most people would think it's the other pride.

Get the format right or you kill the thread.
Comment on the previous song and then post your own that you're listing to right now.

That seems very 1970s! Very early to mid 70s. It sounds very happy and American… Californian, ironically for a band called Chicago haha!

Actually listen AND comment.
It's easy, polite, and a great way to share interests.

My song:
Is it Like Today Eliza Gilkyson.
-A cover of the song by Wold Party.

I just bought it now because I LOVE the original song and loved her cover when I checked it out.
I like the message of the song about the continuum of history and the “mid-existence-crisis” that's always with us when we're happy and successful but then suddenly realise we're mortal.

@Ozone
That's a good song. It kinda gave me existential depression, thanks. I was listening at the train station and it made me want a drink but the 711 is on the other side of the gates. I listened to the original too. I think her version is better. Maybe that's cuz I listened to it first.

Here's my tune…..

DEVO FREEDOM OF CHOICE side b

I started listening to this at 5 AM this morning while drawing and I don't think I've heard it in years but I still remember the order of the songs. Used to have this on vinyl back in the 90s. DEVO is a really good band and they were on Futurama once.

Imma go ahead and teaspoons to myself…..

Yes LOTHAR, while DEVO's freedom of choice album is quite the banger… I believe that their other album titled sometime like “are we not men” was far superior album. It's got some good stuff on there. Butt I digest….

A song that has great meaning to me at the moment it's DARUDE's SANDSTORM…
it's the tits! And I challenged anyone to find fault.

Thank you

It's very classically Devo: mechanical and robotic hard rock with alien vocals. It's all strangely cool and ahead of its time.

This track is ALWAYS quoted as a meme and I have never bothered to look it up and give it a listen before till now.

I don't get it.
The name is good but the sound (to me) is generic and anodyne. It's like what you'd pick from a free music sample site to be a generic techno backing for a commercial video.
Maybe that's the joke?

Led Zeppelin - Bron-Y-Aur Stomp
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cv-kBsah7u8
This sounds like a Celtic folk song, a real dancing tune about joy!
I've always loved this, it's a favourite track on my phone so it comes up a lot.
It was about Robert Plant's pet dog Strider who he used to walk with around the green sunny country lanes near Bron-Y-Aur, a house in Wales.

Yeah, that's a good song and the original video was censored on MTV.

I am listening to this song NIGHT CALL
it's a trip to realize that it's 13 years ago. I first heard this on a torrent compilation of future songs. I'm walking around Japan at night and thinking…. Yeah, it's the future now. It's hard to explain.

That's a beautiful version <3

DEAD OR ALIVE - YOU SPIN ME RIGHT ROUND- EXTENDED MURDER MIX
That's a LONNNNG version. It's a classic song, Pete had the most masculine voice ever and his piratical look with the hair and the eye-patch was amazing and roguish for such a feminine person.

🍄 DETACHABLE PENIS 🍄 🐈
My sister used to love this one. It's one of those weird 90's novelty alt rock songs. It's funny, fun, weird, and silly.

This has a very Cyberpunk feel, it's one of those synthwave/genrewave style sounds so it has a VERY 80s feel- they're meant to sound like early 80s synth driven new wave songs, which it really does, I love this style. And yes they evoke a fake futurism which is very appropriate for this day and age!

Hell yes music thread hellooo

Can't Wait To See You by the Eurogliders
That music video was so cute, I LOL'd when the guy spun and yeeted that dummy off the hill!

@Lothar: Hell yeah Kavinsky! Love Kavinsky, and his whole 80's guy from John Carpenter's “The Fog” motif. Good taste!

Grey in LA by Loudin Wainright

How does a song remind me of the 90's and the 70's at the same time?? There's a little folkiness and alternative in there I suppose. I wasn't even alive in the 70's so of course I mean the music XD

God I wish we could embed youtube videos on here!

Right now, Joywave has launched itself to the top of my favorite all-time bands, and I've only been aware of them for maybe a year, tops.

This song, Smokestacks, kinda eases my anxiety a bit with its sort of lullaby-adjacent reassurances. I love the wooshy percussion, the way he sings “sha~yaa~dows” reminds me of Ennio Morricone's theme for “The Good, The Bad, And the Ugly” (the Ayee~yaee~yah part) and the extended instrumental bit at the end where it gets more and more layered as it goes… it's just a beautiful song to me. The only only thing I don't like is the baby noise at the start, but I can forgive it. It's there for a thematic reason.

Also, almost every one of their music videos is hilarious, or unsettling, sometimes both. I am respecting the rules and posting one at a time though XD

The next one I'll post is the diametric opposite, does not make me feel hopeful but speaks to the current anxiety, and I almost goofed and posted the link to that instead, good thing I checked!
