Quackcast 357 - Power, baddies, and sexiness

Ozoneocean at 12:00AM, Jan. 16, 2018

Sexy badguys: power vs confidence vs sexiness. That's what we chat about here. Why do we have sexy bad guys? Are all bad guys and girls sexy? What makes them sexy? Is power truly sexy in fiction or is it confidence? There are so many aspects to this and so many totally unexamined assumptions, misconceptions, and cilches. We try our best to examine all these aspects because we all love a sexy villain and we loved talking about them even better.

This week Gunwallce has given us the theme to Really? It's ultra poppy Daft Punk-like, bouncing with joy and enthusiasm, this one wants you to get up and go and it wants you to do it now! Really!

You may be stretching that a bit. Some demons were attractive most are supposed to be horrible. Where they're attractive it's likely as a contrast or juxtaposition to some other aspect of their nature, whereas the gods were always beautiful- but not in an earthy, seductive way that a demon would be.

It was a part of many other demons and devils as well. A large part of demonology was how alluring they could be and how beautiful in addition to being terrifying and ugly. There was also a theme of lost beauty that comes with becoming evil like Lilith or Lucifer. See The Origins of Satan by Elaine Pagels among other works.

That's specifically succubi and incubi though, not all demons. The sex demons had a very singular purpose.

I guess it all stems back to old folklore and mythology. Demons and monsters were not ugly then at all. They were attractive or alluring. And in some cases, personalized to what the target seemed as attractive.
