What would you do in a year?

Earlier this week, I stumbled upon a forum post from another comic website asking webcomic creators what they would do if they had an entire year to themselves without having to worry about financial obligations such as bills or rent and it was interesting to see the results.

A number of them said they would dive right into more writing and drawing practice to get their comics to a level they were more satisfied with. Other responded saying that they would take the time to study marketing and making connections through conventions and online collaborations to help strengthen their network.

As for me? I would launch into building a substantial buffer for both the projects I am working on as well as establish some good habits in my day to day life so that when that year ended, easing back into the workforce would be easier. I would also spend time doing fanart for comics I love that I otherwise don’t get time to do as well as completing my third run through of Persona 5.

So that got me thinking…

What would you do if you had a year to focus on comics?

Let us know in the comment section below and I’ll post the responses in next week’s article.

I'd start making comics again in the first place. There are tons of ideas piling up in my folders that just want to get out. However, similarily to usedbooks and others I'd probably end up doing just a fraction of what I'd have liked to do and normally could. Drawing has always been one of several ways for me to balance out my so-called "proper job" daylight activities, and while they currently keep me from doing art, taking them away altogether would just throw me off balance in a different way.

I've had it. But it turns out with all the time in the world, my motivation dies. I wallow in general uselessness and feel guilty about being unproductive which makes me less productive. My mom told me that when I am unemployed (usually half the year), the thing that destroys me is having nothing to do. I can't handle too much time.

It would not be for comics but for making my portfolio on doing voice acting for cartoons. Then shop it to the likes viz, Cartoon Network and Disney studios. What I may do first is do some work for students at Full sail University in Orlando. This might become a reality sometime next year.

That would be bliss. I'd finish Without Moonlight, and do all the extra stuff that I have planned, and start on the next segment of WM's story.

Oh yeah, that would be great. I'd keep doing what I'm doing - making my comic, and developing the next comics, and other stories/animation ideas, but would be able to do it a lot more and get stuff done a lot faster.

I’d draw to my heart’s content—I’d draw everything. I’d finish episode one and the little segment I’m planning in-between, and then I’d go back and redraw/rewrite chapter one, touch up chapter two, and then maybe get it printed and start on the next episode.

Due to recovery from past work accidents, I did end up with the time. But takes a lot of dicipline and focus to get things done and not just play video games or binge watching some series. Have a whole year? Well first week I'll watch every MCU movie again! Been there, done that. Proper planning prevents poor performance. Sit down and make an action plan with clear set goals and a schedule.
