Episode 190 - The Halloweencast!

For the Halloweencast Banes and I will be journeyed beyond the veil, down into the depths of webcomic HELL… There, we encountered the LOST and the DAMMED: the tormented souls of abandoned webcomics that were ended before their time. Deep underneath the black, soaring Gothic spires of DD HQ lie the labyrinthine catacombs, dry, dusty crypts, and ossuaries where the bones of old abandoned webcomics go to rest and moulder away, their lonely souls pining for the time when they could see the day and frolic in the sun, with viewers to keep them company. Watched over by the great demon Death Porn and harried by mischievous spriter sprites, the poor souls languish in their solitary torments, hoping to one day be reborn anew! For the Halloweencast, Banes and I asked for contributors to name some of their old lost faves so we could pay our respects to these tragic cases, give them a voice once more, and hopefully return them for a few brief moments to the sun again by sending some more viewers their way.

Come on down, it's Quiz time! For this week's Quackcast we had a quiz based on DD comics, as a friendly, fun way to try and promote them... there's even a bit of Drunk Duck history mixed up in the questions. Just a smidge. We had three contestants taking part for the honour of telling everyone else to suck it; Archaeologist Amazon Adventurer Artist Pitface, Psychologist Freedom Fighter Lawyer Comicer Tantz Aerine, and Scientist Philosopher Comic Group Leader and all around boob-fancier Abt Nihil. They all competed to the very limit of their abilities, striving for dominance against each other, employing every dirty trick in the book and even some new ones... So please listen to the first ever DD bottomless Quiz! Oh, and there's even some titbits about the totally mythical married life of Ozoneocean and Pitface.

HippieVan, one of our wonderful news admins, made a newspost about the latest Archie comic sales tactic/plot device, killing off Archie, in the context of "Jumping The Shark", and it was quite a popular topic of discussion. Jumping the Shark is the term we use for a TV Series (but it could be anything), that has reached a bit of a creative desert so the writers attempt a silly stun or the introduction of a new character or theme or something that breaks the narrative and the story dynamic, all in an attempt to re-energize the failing series. Sometimes it works, but often it's a sign that the thing is on its deathbed. And that's what Hippie joined us to talk about: Shark jumping! In the meantime, we find a shark of our own...

We asked people to contribute their own notions about what's cool and interesting in SciFi, as well as what they don't like and what they do not think works well. We had so many great contributions that we decided to split it into two parts and this is the second and final one!

Pitface, the author of the ever popular and very disgusting Putrid Meat, fills Ozoneocean's stinky shoes this week to have an interview with two of her main characters; Bones and Puke. Bones is somewhat contrite after his behaviour during Ozone's interview with him during Quackcast 134... Well, his lawyer says he is anyway. If you don't know about Putrid meat then I'll tell you: It's a comic about the anarchistic, thrash metal loving Bones and his gloriously gross adventures in the disgusting city of Septica with serial killers, prostitutes, soldiers, mutants and scum. In this special behind the scenes version of the Quackcast we take a look at the men behind the microphones, their struggles and triumphs as they work tirelessly week after week to put out Quackcasts- We cover the early days, the rising tensions between our two mega-popular superstars, the infamous post-post-post-fencepostmodernist-avantegaurde artsy experimental Quackcasts, Bane's personal hell with his Nesquik abuse issues and the resultant humiliating on air breakdown that shocked the world and brought to light the realities of the inner-city Nesquik problem, Skoolmunkee's short lived return and inevitable decent into evil (currently on death row), Bane's and Ozone's triumphant reconciliation and the return to Quackcast glory for our dynamic duo!
