You can go ahead and blame me for the review being lopsided :P My positive points were lackluster at best, but that's because the setting really did "speak" to me. I had never read the comic until Genejoke told me to review it, so the fact that it was about my heritage was just a neat surprise. If I'm ever asked to review again, I'll try harder to focus on more important aspects. So yeah, sorry Tantz!

well, it CAN hurt the comic though. i know i've recalled a few times when ive read the review of a comic i've never read before and the review itself made me not interested in the comic enough to even check it out. we have to keep in mind, as many fans that come out to read the review, there will be others as well who havent read the comic yet. this review comic is also becoming very popular on this site, so its potential to influence readership on a particular comic can be even bigger.

Yup, I think this was the right thing to do. There is nothing wrong with voicing a clear opinion in a review. But I think the unbalanced way the review turned out just hurt the review, not the comic that was reviewed.

Thanks, Genejoke :) The views of the reviewers were just fine- including Mike's, he can do and say as he sees fit. A view/opinion/estimation is not, however, tantamount to the sum of the review (whether it's bashing or it's gushing about an artist's work). It's the review that was problematic, and I really appreciate you posting this. It takes real guts to do, and I respect you a lot for it. Again, thank you. :)

He's not apoligizing for the opinions just the unbalanced way they wre presented. Balancing the presentation of three reviewers especially with several big differences of opinion is what's hard.

No, not apologizing for your views, although I don't really agree with them. The problem, as El cid put it was that when putting the review together I didn't push the opposing opinions enough.

I feel like you're apologizing for what was essentially my portion of the review: you're always very careful not to offend when you review comics, which is cool. I've always been more frank when I review stuff, and it's easier to turn me off of a comic than it is to turn others off because my standards are very high. If you just feel the review wasn't balanced enough, I'm all for your revising it or redoing it. But if Tantz had a problem with what I had to say, maybe he/she isn't as professional as he/she thinks. I called it like I saw it and wasn't out to troll anybody.

I did feel like the review was a bit lopsided, but that kind of thing can happen sometimes when you have somebody with a lot to say on your review panel. Not ideal, but not something you need to apologize for. And for what it's worth, two of the three reviewers clearly liked the comic and did offer differing views, though they were less bullish about it. Overall though, yeah, it could have been more balanced and it didn't make me want to go check out the comic. So I guess it does deserve a second look.

It's okay to do genuine honest reviews. But, it takes a thick skin some times to get one. This is why I rarely shave my beard and now regret having done so over the weekend (it will grow back). I love most of the comix on DD some times just as much for their faults as their strengths. Your reviews hit to the point but seem positively focused. The artist/writers hopefully can grow and improve from them....
