El Cid sez: The opening pages start off with some really interesting, nearly abstract, illustrations of the birth of the universe. After that, we get a really neat photo montage of alternate Earths, all of which shows plenty of creativity and is actually pretty interesting stuff in its own right. But after that, when we finally see how the comic itself is going to be, it's a letdown. Shasta's main strength is as a writer and, while her illustrating technique does improve somewhat in the later chapters, she still has a long way to go.

I definitely realize Tempore's comparisons to the Silver Surfer. I guess part of it is my love of the Silver Age. And yes, my art is horrendous. It's just that drawing is not my passion--writing is. Hopefully my art will get to a decent level at some point, and maybe it'll become fun for me. Also, those introductory pages are definitely disjointed compared to the rest. I just knew my art was terrible, so I wanted to use something else for the introduction to the comic. I still use the starry background (a pictore taken from the Hubble telescope) and the photo of Earth a lot when I'm dealing with Tempore. But I do like the alternate universes. The alternate Iwo Jima always stands out to me.

Too bad they had to go and keep the surfer character through the 80s... and the 90s... and the 2000s...

Marvel comics ... they gave you a surfer in the 70s, a disco dancer in the 80s, and a hip black ghetto character in the 90s ... always so in tune with the times.
