Nah, they went bankrupt. I decided to put the Pan-Am thing in here as a bit of a background joke. All the Smiley stories so far feature stuff like that. There are more coming on future pages of this yarn.

I recognized them as being involved in some really awful plane crash or something, but I'd always just assumed they'd merged with some other airline.

The irony being that they were featured so prominently in Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey.

I'm not sure if anyone noticed, but the airline here is Pan-Am. Pan-Am, of course, went belly up in the early 90s.
