Pretty much. But it's going to be a bit more than $300 for a quality blade. That will get you the economy practical.

I'd suggest Cold Steel or Paul Chen if you want a decent practical. It'll probably cost you around $400 to $500 for a good one.

Actually, the other students and particularly the other teachers loved it. It was pretty fun and I gained quite a bit of esteem from my peers. :)

I was the only one ballsy enough that year to do such a thing. They thought I was cool for it.

Actually, I think the term “hair band” came about to describe the strange quiffs on the 80's New Romantics. Who mainly had short hair.

Once upon a time you see, ALL bands had long hair. As such, making a point of that in their description was as redundant as saying “a cop with a gun”. :)

Shame that it's degenerated to the extent that people now apply it to something that was rather ordinary at the time. Ugh, retrospective word transformation. -_-
