Well, I was hoping to participate, but I didn't where to go or who to contact to get connected.

Not all of us are experts at this Skype thing, so some What To Do 101 would have been handy.

I said the same thing when I was first invited on a Quackcast. All the directions you really need are on the Skype site. There really is no magic to it. Download, let it run and put in the username of who you want to call. It's just like using a phone. But then even that can be very hard.


It's so easy to take a skill for granted once you've mastered it. Quite another to remember and understand what it was like to be totally new to something. We really have to work harder at making directions “keep it short and simple” (kiss) directions for things.

Download and install Skype from here:

Follow the instructions on the site and sign up for an account. It's all free.

Then add “ozoneocean” as a contact and be online during the time of the call.

It helps if your comp has a microphone and speakers. Most laptops do these days and a cheap USB headset is great as well since you don't need speakers or a mic to make that work.

The problem wasn't downloading Skype, that was easy. But as I was ready to join in I realized I didn't know what number to call or what place to go to.

I would have contacted Ozoneocean, but I noticed he wrote he'd be there for the first three hours then go to work and I didn't want to disturb him at work.

I did go to Google Hangouts and typed in Drunk Duck, but several things came up and I didn't know if any of them was correct.

Oh, I don't know how the 3 hours thing came up- I don't work on the weekends, I was there all 10 hours.

I'm sorry the instructions weren't more clear! Next time I'll make sure to put something up about how to join the group chat.

In the future, though, if you have any issues with the site (meet-ups or anything else) you can always send me a PQ or an email, or you can message the DD facebook site. I almost always have my computer or phone in front of me.

Sorry I was only on so briefly, guys! Today ended up being a lot more hectic than I thought it would be. I only just got home.

We need some other way to do these next time. Being on overnight for 10 hours almost killed me this time. Gahhhh…

If we had more than one host. Like Ozone do five hours, then another relieve him so he can rest. But you really need the ten hours to give a chance for all the world's time zones to participate. Not everyone lives on the North American continent.

And have I said how thankful I am to my supervisor for changing the schedule to make sure I couldn't participate? Just want to make that clear. And how much I hate myself for agreeing to it.

Yeah, we need about 10 hours get get everyone in.

The only one who has an awkward time zone to be on then is me and a strip all the way up to parts of South East Asia, China and Russia, where we don't have any active community members anyway, so it's an ok Sacrifice.

I THINK we can do a second host with Skype… When we were doing the call my skype cut out for a sec and the hosting duty mysteriously changed over to Pitface. So it could be possible to switch hosts.

But there's more of a sticking point than just hosting: everyone has added me as a friend so I can easily invite everyone over… but that doesn't really work for someone else who hasn't got that list of people.

Someone else could volunteer to pick up all the names. When the change-over happens just notify everyone to switch to the new host and viola!

Just took a quick look at Google hangouts & they do have some help articles, but probably the best way would be to arrange a small test group to meet up at some time and see if/how it works, fiddle with the features and all that.
