First day at the beach today. : ) It was great - warm weather, not too sunny, no mosquitoes(although lots of horse flies), plenty of waves. The water felt as if the ice had only just melted, though. Freezing! Ridiculously cold water is all part of a Manitoba summer, though.

Had to go right off to work afterwards, where our air conditioning isn't really working. It's supposed to be like 40 degrees C with the humidity tomorrow, so I sure hope it decides to work.
We got in a new line of dog/cat food, and I'm in love with it. It's grain-free and has chicken-free formulas so it's good for my poor allergic doggy, it's all Canadian-made and Canadian ingredients, all free range, no preservatives, and so on. I brought home a little trial bag for my dog, who is usually very fussy, and he LOVED it. Very happy about that.

So I entered a contest for Kiseki Magazine and in the last month (the judging portion of the contest) their website has exploded and they're barely responding to questions on their deviantart group. They're supposed to post the winners today (they said 31st June 2011 but unless the rhyme is wrong or Australia has an extra day in the month…) I wonder if they'll actually announce them. : <

As soon as you said that, I had to check because I wasn't sure, no, we do not have an extra day here… But DD asked me if I wanted to upload my comic on the 31st of June when I was updating so…

Anyway, I had to check my iPhone calander, my regular calander and google, tomorrow is indeed the 1st of July, not the 31st of June.

…I just wasted five minutes of my life checking that! Hahah!

I like that it was totally feasible enough for Australia to have an extra day though. I think if you told people that Australia has an extra day like it was a fact, most people would either believe you or check to see if it's true, because it doesn't sound false enough to be TOTALLY made up. : B

When you grow up in a country with deranged fur covered ducks, tree climbing lizards and giant jumping marsupials, anything is possible, haha! I just got confused because both the sites I update on including DD said Friday was the 31st, and yet my calander said it wasn't.

I've passed off complete lies to foreigners about Australia, and they've belived it.

Told an English girl there were Drop Bears once, ambush predators waiting in the trees to jump down and attack people. She didn't want to leave the house, afterwards.

Heh… you could probably fool me too… probably… a lot of our Discovery Channel and Animal Planet shows come from Australia… such as my favorite Discovery show with that fisherman guy catching fish in Australia.

I'm still pretty ticked about that one show where Steve Irwin rescued a kangaroo that had an arrow shot through it. What kind of idiot shoots arrows at a national icon?!? O_O

I think I know the guy you're talking about, is it ET? (Andrew Ettinghouse–something…) or Zeb Hogan the American one? Animal planet and the Discovery Channel are the freakin' BOMB. They need to show more “The Jeff Corwin Experience” on Animal Planet, he was hectic. :)

And you'd be surprised. Kangaroos are in plague proportion here, and lots of farmers, particularly out west, shoot or hunt them because they compete with stock for pasture and ruin fences. But it is pretty sick. I don't mind them shooting, I can understand why they do it, if it's quick and painless, that's fine, but when its something like an arrow or poison where the animal will take a long time to die and suffer, then it's crossing the line and not acceptable.

People don't really care about shooting roos.

But if it was Koalas, then people would have something to say about it.

I know but he could at least expand on his comments (like he used to) and not spam threads with random BS. I may not agree with much he says but when he does it well it's at least interesting.

What's super about jared leto? does he have super powers? The ability to make incredibly bland songs that don't stick in your head no matter how often you hear them?

Ever since they started doing “blended flavours” (claiming multiple mixed meats…), suddenly only 10% of the choices DON'T contain chicken.
The trouble is my cats hate catfood chicken in any form. they don't mind the actual cooked bird meat, but the processed shit in cans, bags or dry form they treat as excrement. -Pretty obvious why… those birds are mashed up feathers, guts, beaks, organs, poop, legs and all, from birds that've passed their use-by dates in battery cages. The same idiots who used to shoot bald eagles in the USA. Nations should choose a national icon that doesn't get in the way and is fairly innocuous like horses or cows.

Have to take the wife to the hospital today for a procedure that involves gynocologists and stirrups. She may have some kind of female plumbing problem. I won't get any more specific. However, I have had to totally flip my sleeping schedule to do this just in time for me to have to flip back the following day.

Then July 5 I have to take my mom to the hospital for a procedure right after I do a 12 hour overnight shift.

I am going to have some wicked headaches from lack of sleep. Just hope I can keep the dizziness and blurred vision to a low roar.

This is what we call fun. Hoo-rah!

You know if a depressed person is playing you for a sucker you can impose boundries. Simply state that you can not talk to them if they are going to dump guilt on you or try to manipulate you. And use plenty of “I” statements. Describe your feelings using “I” statements and express your needs.

Don't allow yourself to get drawn into their games. It's okay to set up boundries to protect your own ability to function. It may not seem like you're helping them, but you are.

These are coping skills proven to work in interpersonal relationships; not magical spells to cure the sick and raise the dead.

When you feel like you're being manipulated it's because you're allowing yourself to be manipulated. You don't have to let another person get away with it. This lesson takes forever to learn. ;)

Remember you can never change or control another's behavior. They have to recognize the problem and be willing to change themselves and expect them not to listen because usually they won't.

@ dodger's friend issue:
Sounds like either they're not serious or they can't really find as to what they're depressed about.
I have a friend, very similar, he constantly acts sad.
But it's all an act. It all started after his girlfriend dumped him. Number one, she was a bitch and everyone told him this because, well she was desperate enough to go date an eighth grader. Number two, he said he understood why she left him a day after and I responded, why then; HE HAD NO ANSWER. Number three, he gloated bloody murder about having one to me probably hundreds of thousands of times. Number four, he is about the luckiest guy in the world - rich, popular, talented, loved - but CHOOSES to act like this.
Is it kinda wrong to tell him that he doesn't know what depression is?
Is it kinda wrong to show him?
Example:
-he gets like this, everyone makes him a “feel better tom card”, he says “I hate it”
-I get like this, everyone either ignores me or bothers me when I say I need some thinking time, I get screamed at and have to apologize to my surrounding peers/get grounded.
and I can see him just not being a pain in the ass like that because he has and can but He CHOOSES not to. It's not HE CAN'T, he refuses to smile, even when he likes the joke.

One of the main reasons I want to quit my band, I can't stand working with that huge ass pussy, whiner.

But my key fact is he doesn't have depression.

Your friend is probably the first reason.

And not annoying to the extent that you hope he does. ‘cause that’s kinda not right…

…jesus that was an offensive paragraph about him…

So on a happier, I feel good note, not 1337 lecturing about his dick friend (and not his millimeter peter, if you get what I mean), I thought of a brilliant new idea.

Pokemon.

The musical.

:D

I mean, I've already gotten started on Batman so why not Pokemon next?!

And then Adventure Time!

And then the Meme-sical.

And then FotC! obvious link is obvious

And then…any ideas?

Do you know how difficult it is to write a song about this site and make it sound like it's all not about forum posting and all?

…or maybe I just suck…

…potato!

In english that means "In my acting class this summer we're doing the play ‘The actor’s Nightmare'. I'm going to link you to the wikipedia article… HERE"

That's why you have to watch out for crap like chicken, poultry, and especially MEAT by-products in pet food. Those can basically be anything that even resemble meat. Gross. And don't buy pet food at the grocery store.
Two of my cats don't care much what they eat, but my Balinese can always tell. She won't eat the cheap garbage that's all corn and by-products. And I think Buddy's allergies are the result of eating poor-quality dog food for a long time.
If you go for a good lamb or fish food you can typically avoid chicken, but even in decent foods you have to carefully read the ingredients. Avoiding chicken is easier in dog foods…I have no idea why it's so popular in cat foods.

The key words here are “Most Likely.”

Nah, I wouldn't do it, but I know lots of friends at school who do go out roo hunting as a sport. They like arrows/crossbows because its more challenging. They're also the type of people to go out Pigging with dogs. That is a ‘sport’ I cannot stand, Pigging.

I don't care if pigs are a pest or whatever, shoot them if you must, but sending in your packs of dogs to rip pigs apart while getting killed themselves is absolutely sickening. They don't even care about what happens to their dogs if they're injured either! I had to deal with a pig dog at the vet whose face had been sliced open by a pig, and the owner just treated it like it was dirt. The only reason he paid for the dog to be treated was because it was his “best”

Ugh.

That is not completely true and it would be wrong to dismiss a pet food simply because it has chicken or a “by product ”in it. There's nothing inherently wrong with ANY part of an animal, just bits humans think are gross. Bones and organs provide very valuable nutrition. What's important is what's done to that meat before it's turned into kibble or whatever, and in what percentage they're present in the food.

There is some marginal labelling regulations among pet food manufacturers (in the US and EU anyway) and in the EU pet food can only be made from animals judged fit for human consumption, so the're not using sick animals. An ingredient list which says just “lamb” is vague and could mean anything, although usually not stuff like skin or hooves. “lamb meal” is lamb after the fat and water have been rendered out, it's not too bad, mostly pure protein but is more likely to have stuff like hooves or whatever since what they're after with meal is protein. “lamb meal” may in fact be better than “lamb” because by weight, it's more nutritionally dense; however the rendering practices can be quite bad and the pet food companies will say “sell us some rendered lamb” and the rendering company may go “sure, this is probably lamb.” “by product” just means the bits humans don't want to eat. There's another which is kind of bad but I can't remember what it is right now.

There are some brands you can buy in grocery stores which aren't premium, but are certainly better than friskies or beneful. Look at the first 5-6 ingredients (which are ordered in their percentage of the food's contents) and just make sure most of them are meat derived, and that they're not doing anything sneaky like trying to split corn into 3 or 4 different subcategories because the main ingredient is really corn. For example, the Kirkland dog and cat foods are actually pretty decent for the money.

Eventually I just gave up and fed my dog raw food.

Etc…

No, we more or less agree - I just didn't phrase that very well. I meant chicken by-products, poultry by-products, and meat by-products. There's absolutely nothing wrong with feeding your pet a food with whole chicken/chicken meal/etc in it. I'm not really sure what we're debating about, actually. Everything you said is absolutely true. I would still never want to feed my guys anything with by-products in it, though. Not only because it's gross, but it's typically a red flag(like ingredient splitting, as you said) of something being a crap food. Beet pulp is also questionable, as well as a hundred other things.

well, its the last few hours of DD it seems. I'm definately looking forward to seeing Duck after its major facelift and final drink. Unfortunately, I forgot to upload a picture of myself with sunglasses in homage to the old website as requested by the almighty admin ozoneocean, but I'll just pretend to wear them. Also, I'd like to take this moment in time to point out to Dodger, that yes, it is the 1st of July, and yet, AND YET, DD says it's the 31st of June (please draw your attention to the latest news update).

So I think I've missed a day, and I'd like it back, thankyou very much.

Lonnehart…. I don't know why I'm even bothering to tell you this as it should be self-evident; but the next time you find unidentifiable furry blue pie in your fridge, please, for the sake of your health, don't eat it.

I just got three tattoo commissions today. I completed a tattoo for my little sister's 18th birthday and she posted a picture of it on facebook. One thing led to another and three commissions (already paid in advance) landed in my lap with at least five other “maybes”.

Is it horribly ungrateful of me to say that just once I'd love for someone to commission me to paint something? Not that I don't just love drawing pinups and yinyangs and tacky chinese symbols. /sarcasm

I'm creating a buffer of five pages and once the new site launches I'm getting my comic back on track. Life really derailed it there (and just when I was starting out, too!).

My dog only eats this organic, all natural health food petchow called Blue Buffalo. It makes me feel great as an owner to go to whatever lengths it takes to get food that I know will be healthy and nourishing for my dog. Though I must admit I feel a sort of irony every time I watch him eat his health food, then go drink out of the toilet bowl…

We just got Blue Buffalo in our store not too long ago. I like it, although to be honest I'm pretty sure the “lifesource bits” thing is just marketing - there are a lot of foods on par with it, so I guess it's a way to set themselves apart. Either way, a good food. It's also nice to see a good healthy food that advertises…a lot of people who come in who genuinely think that IAMS, Purina etc are the best thing for their dog because that's what the tv says.

Hippie Van
I'm not really sure what we're debating about, actually.

I probably just misunderstood you. :]

Blue Buffalo is a good premium food, it's up there with a few other brands like Taste of the Wild(?) I think. Unfortunately that level of food is only readily available in the US, I had a hell of a time 5 years ago trying to find anything like that for Union, which is part of the reason I just switched her to raw.

She's really happy on raw food though, and she's incredibly healthy. She gets complimented constantly. People stop me in the park and say stuff like “Your dog is lovely, she just looks so… healthy.” It's kind of bizarre.

Big day guys!

Started work on another big piece, not for any particular reason, just because I felt it was high time I did a proper portrait once again and get back into the swing of things. I find drawing people so very difficult, as my main subject has always been wild animals, and coloured pencils always come in suitable shades for them. But not for people, oohhhh no.

I have to use at least eight diffierent colours to get ‘true’ skin tone, and really wierd colours too that you wouldn't expect to find, like olive green and violet lake. That's one of the down sides of using coloured pencils vs. watercolours or paints, you have to blend and blend and blend to try and get the exact colour.

Anyway, I started the portrait, finished the face, hair and starting on the bow tie (you heard me). I have a feeling it's going to take me forever.

Big day guys!

INDEED IT IS.

I'd say a couple of words on the DrunkDuck's passing, but I'm not very good with words and my sentences don't always end the way you think it octopus.
of all the things I've lost I miss my mind the most.
