The last page in this chapter. Yay! Plot exposition. (The first of several flashbacks to that fateful night; it did have an impact after all.) I liked drawing child Seiko. She turned out pretty good. I'm also happy with my shadow figures. Starting with this page, I was getting more comfortable with human form. It's important to be able to draw people doing things rather than just talking. Gael suggested Dune for this flashback. I want to start putting book titles and author references into my comic fairly regularly, to play into the title a bit.

I've had teachers give me books. Not ones I've asked for, just things collecting dust on their shelves and my teachers thought I would enjoy. One teacher gave me "The Source" by Michener and another teacher gave me an Agatha Christie book (my first one, "Cat Among the Pigeons"). Our librarian gave me quite a few books too. They sat in the school library for decades without being read -- checkout stamps from the 70s... People need to show the books some love!

I have to tell you...When I taught junior high English I had three different copies of Dune stolen off my shelves. (I had one kid ask if he could keep it...) I told him yes. How could I refuse? This entire page looks fantastic.

Good choice of books. Dune normally sends me to sleep after a few pages! The shadowy figures are good, too. Sometimes cartoon strips need to be what appears to be over-wordy, especially when they explain major plot-lines or sub-stories, so no worries there. It's good, I'll certainly be coming back for more.
