I don't know if passerby is hyphenated or not. Both look wrong but spellcheck doesn't underline either. Researching references for this page, I found out that car phones were around since the 1940s. I remember the silly “spy” phone on Get Smart where the steering wheel was the dial, and Max kept accidentally dialing the operator on sharp turns.

I like drawing them (more than modern cars). I don't like riding in them, though. XD

Thanks! 70s cars are easier than 21st century cars. Lol

Perry White had a car phone in the 1950s on the television show "The Adventures of Superman". Probably because they wanted him to look important, being an editor for a great metropolitan newspaper.

My family didn't get cell phones until after my sister and I were in a car accident. No one on scene had one (including a Cellular One salesman, lol).

I didn't get one until almost in my 40s. And only then, because my mom wasn't doing too well and it was easier to help her.

In the nineties I knew a on call nurse who had one (not her's the hospital's). Jonathan and Jennifer Hart had car phones in all their vehicles on tv's Hart to Hart in the eighties. They were supposed to be rich people.

I saw one on an episode of Columbo (it belonged to a rich guy, played by William Shatner). Until the late 90s/early 00s, any kind of portable phone was a sign of wealth and importance. (Also criminal connections, as most signs of wealth are.) I remember only one kid in high school had a cell phone. We were all pretty sure he was a drug dealer.

That must have been crazy expensive back then. I mean the car phone.

No joke. Definitely only worth it as a business expense. (I looked it up. About 1500 usd in 70s money = 8000 in today money.)
