My first draft had Mike standing on the pond and looking into the forest (where the truck left), which, tbh, was much easier to draw. But I decided it fit his character more to be looking into the dark water.
Also, my original script had Mike just miss his mark, but I wasn't sure he would. Ultimately, I realized it didn't matter since we established that Valentine always wears body armor. It serves the plot and characters more to have the shots connect. (And makes it more logical for Valentine to make a hasty exit.)

Too bad he didn't get hurt during the shots to the vest. Or at least the impact. That or maybe Mike should have aimed for the head with this one xD

Aiming for the head is a movie thing. You will miss. Jigen (Lupin III) taught me that. XD

I like it that Mike hit his target. And definitely explains why Valentine bailed. Vest or not, that must have bruised up fast.

Thanks! It doesn't have much effect on the plot, but I agonize over little details and obsess over the implications.

It also hurts like a mofo when you get shot in the vest.... even just once

True. Often can break bones. Might be way Val wasn't interested in continuing the "shoot out."
